📣 ARTIST OPPORTUNITY | Creative Development | LOCAL HOST

We’re looking for 3 x artists or creative technologists wanting to take a new idea from scratch to prototype. You do not need experience with the technology you want to explore, we’re looking for artists who are curious about trying something new.

Participants will receive artist fees, and join an 8 week guided development program with support from the Voxstep team. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a connection to Parramatta.

📆 Applications close September 4.
👀 More info and the application link is in our bio!

LOCAL HOST is co-directed by Lily Hayman & Nick Atkins with support from associate artists Daniel Herten and Sally Coleman. LOCAL HOST is supported by Create NSW, City of Parramatta and Riverside’s National Theatre of Parramatta.

What a fun time we’ve had in the Garden! 🪴🫶

Thank you so much @sydney_festival for having us in the program and helping us get this garden to sing. It’s been a delight to see audiences young and old playing with this exciting blend of interactive technologies and we will miss our plants now that they’ve been put away in the greenhouse 🍂

Thank you so much to @riversideparra and @thepavilionarts for hosting us, supporting the creation of this new work and supporting Voxstep! Big thanks also to @formdanceprojects our partners in making the show!

Most importantly of all thank you to the brilliant team of artists who brought this show to life!!! We were developing new ways of making, experimenting with ideas and growing together. You all gave Dag and Dug the tools and let the garden to grow 🌱🌿🪴

GARDEN OF SOUND opened last week at PHIVE in Parramatta as a part of @sydney_festival.

This project is a dream for a composer to work on. Interactive, for a young audience and the narrative revolves around sound?? Sign me up. It’s been really refreshing to develop the auditory aesthetic of this world while working within the constraints and advantages of the Unreal Engine interactions. I think we’re all keen to push this further and explore how we can continue to make responsive music with our bodies (see video below of the kids ‘playing’ the garden post-show below. I love creative tech projects like these and hope I can continue to push my theatre storytelling and writing with emerging tech.

Thanks @voxstep_org and @formdanceprojects for having me!

You can still catch Garden Of Sound at Sutherland later this week:

Birthday selfie 💁‍♀️🎂 spending my day in a 14 hour tech rehearsal for @sydney_festival kids show Garden of Sound which starts TOMORROW at @riversideparra 🌱

Huge way to cap off my first experience as lead tech developer for a theatre show 🤓 This is a kids performance that uses @unrealengine and AI driven motion capture camera from @stereolabs3d to let actors (and little kids) interact with an invisible sound garden 👩‍🌾

If you know a kid who loves music, bring them to come see it in @phive.ps or the week after at @thepavilionarts!

Included: BTS of the @voxstep_org production gang (also bonus never-before
- seen vision of unrelated but delicious NYE hotpot with the in-laws ❤️).

The best gardeners there are 💪

We are so grateful to this brilliant group of creatives, who have listened our garden to life! We’ve just completed our dress run, and the seedlings are ready to grow.
