Still trying to process this one 🤍

Teaching my very first class at Broadway Dance Center @bdcnyc has been one of my biggest dreams for as long as I can remember. And getting to step into that room and teach my Intermediate/Advanced Hip Hop Fusion class was a moment I’ll never forget.

But this moment means so much more to me than just checking something off my bucket list.

As a plus-size child, I was forced out of my home studio because I was “too fat” to be a dancer. I remember what it felt like to be made to believe that my body didn’t belong in dance spaces. And somehow, I found myself at Broadway Dance Center, training every day, pushing myself and working toward becoming the dancer I am today.

I spent so much of that journey being the only one in the room who looked like me. And while that was incredibly lonely at times, it also became one of the reasons I fought so hard for my community and for my love of dance. I never wanted another dancer to feel like they had to choose between loving dance and loving themselves.

So to go from the kid who was told she didn’t belong in a studio… to training at BDC every day… to now standing at the front of that room as the teacher is something I don’t think I’ll ever fully be able to put into words.

It was truly a full-circle moment.

But somehow, it got even more surreal… I got to have the artist of the song, Daxt @justindaxtbobbs , come watch the class and make an appearance. Having the person whose music inspired the choreography there in the room while I taught was truly full circle.

From dreaming about teaching in rooms like this to actually standing in one — I’m so grateful, so proud, and so freaking excited for what’s next.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, danced with me, and made this moment even more special. This one is for the little girl who always dreamed BIG.

And for every dancer who has ever been made to feel like they were “too much,” “not enough,” or simply didn’t belong — keep going. There is a place for you in this dance world.

I stepped into my 30s and chose to LIVE,
to LOVE, (myself better),
& to BE (myself no matter what)✨

My hair got longer,
My ass got fatter,
My love became louder.
I finished 3 journals.
I read 11 books & finished 8.
I got swaggier.
I dated (fuck dem niggas doe lmao).
I lost friends & made new ones.
I rekindled old friendships.
I set boundaries.
I DANCED!
and through everything,
I fell back in love with myself!
My beauty shines through in the most boisterous ways and that’s my favorite part about me 🌟

Late birthday post (as per us) but thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes! Thank you to everyone who has supported my transition into my 30s, who’s never judged me & has made me feel seen! I love you all so so much! And even if you don’t fw me, I still love you cus I know it’s just the love having nowhere to go right now. MWAH 💋😘🥰

You don’t understand how long I’ve waited for a dance class to serve me up a Cheetah Girls number. 😭🐆

The SECOND I saw @michaelmccraryb was doing a pop-up to “Strut,” I cleared my evening, pulled the Cheetah Girls sweater out of the closet for her long-awaited debut, and said THE TIME HAS COME. 😂

Crazy that a year ago this month I was literally strutting through Barcelona living my Cheetah Girls fantasy and tonight I got to live the other one: dancing to “Strut” in an NYC dance class. 🥹❤️‍🔥

Was the dancing perfect? Absolutely not. Was the Disney Channel gurl inside me LIVING? ABSOLUTELY.

Thank you Michael for the nostalgia, the choreo, and the pure JOY tonight. We strutted. We sweated. We did the damn thing. 🐆👠✨
