🎞️ Synopsis
Tunis, summer 2010. Farah has just graduated, but instead of becoming a doctor, she sings in a political rock band. Her growing independence clashes with her mother Hayet, who knows the dangers of life under Ben Ali.

🗞️ Review
Leyla Bouzid captures a generation hungry for freedom through music, friendship and rebellion. Farah’s struggle for independence mirrors a society suffocated by surveillance and fear, making music an act of resistance.

🏆 Awards and Festivals
Venice Film Festival 2015 - Venice Days; Audience Award; Europa Cinemas Label
Carthage Film Festival 2015 - FIPRESCI Prize; Bronze Tanit; Best First Film
Dubai International Film Festival 2015 - Muhr Award, Best Fiction Feature
Namur International Film Festival 2015 - Best First Feature
East End Film Festival 2016 - Best Film

🎬 Production
Bouzid spent more than a year casting Farah before choosing Baya Medhaffar for her first major role. Ghalia Benali returned to the screen after 13 years devoted to music. Khyam Allami created the songs with the cast, who rehearsed for weeks before filming and performed the musical scenes live.

ℹ️ Additional Notes
The film blends fiction with the realities of contemporary Tunisia, featuring authentic locations and local communities. The phosphate-mining scenes also connect the story to the region’s history of social protest and the events of 2008.
