I’ve been trying to write this for a long time, but every time I opened the notes app I froze. This year has been brutal in ways I wasn’t prepared for. On 12th March, I lost my furry baby of 15 and a half years, and my home fell into a kind of silence that still knocks the air out of me.

Two weeks later, I lost my job. Everything felt like it collapsed at once. My flat felt too big, too quiet, and I didn’t know what to do with myself or with all the hours in the day. I was grieving, depressed, and honestly just trying to make it through each day without falling apart.

And then IMS and TEPS happened. I don’t even know how to explain it properly, but those studios became my lifeline. I started cycling there almost every day, taking classes, helping out when I could, sitting in the corner just to feel like I wasn’t alone. When everything inside me felt heavy and loud and messy, walking into those spaces softened something.

April and May were two of the hardest months I’ve ever lived. There were days when my thoughts scared me, when I didn’t feel like myself at all. But Tati’s smile, Alex’s super fun energy, and every single moment upside down on the pole with people who probably didn’t even realise how much they were helping me… those things pulled me back to the surface again and again.

And to my pole friends, thank you for not disappearing when I did. Thank you for the birthday invites, the festivals, the messages, the tiny check-ins. Even when I only managed to show up for ten minutes before going home, you still kept a place for me. That meant everything.

If you’ve never tried pole before, let IMS and TEPS show you what a real community feels like. IMS and TEPS are warmth, safety, laughter, healing, and strength all in the same place. They held me at a time when I couldn’t hold myself. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to put into words how much that mattered, but this is my attempt.
