we just finished our tour and want to share some impressions with you guys. every location was so different and special on its own.
our last stop on this tour was the indian music academy @anubhabacademy - and that was quite a show. the owner Debasish Battercharjee welcomed us with his team, we celebrated a full house and he opened the evening with a tabla/vocal performance. the energy was absolutely amazing and we were literally flying…it was a perfect close-up to this amazing time we thank each and every one of you for coming. and thank you Debasishji for giving us this opportunity! video footage is coming soon!

Part I/VI

Today we complete two months of this beautiful marriage, so we want to tell you the detailed story of our wedding day. The day which we planned ever since turned out to be completely different than expected - basically, same as everything else during this pandemic, isn’t it? For this, we want to recall the whole day and try to ‘rebuild’ it as much and as precise as possible. Vamos!

19th of July 2021 - The wedding day!

7:00am - It is wake up time. Excited for the things which were in front of us, we opened our eyes full of excitement and realised: wait a minute…we get married today! While thinking about that we realised another thing:…our throats were kinda hurting…would we get sick on our own wedding day?! Thanks to our adrenaline level, we were able to leave this small issue aside and focus on the main topic for today: becoming husband & wife.

7:30am - After enjoying the first rays of sunlight to fill our selves with energy and a proper amount of Vitamin D, it was time to get dressed: this included a long, in pure orange shining kurta for the groom, with off-white pyjamas and a golden looking west to top it of + a six-metre long, extraordinary gorgeous looking saree for the even more graceful wife.

8:00am - We needed photos and our photographer and good friend Kapil Jagtap arrived right on time to catch the real candid moments: the complicated, yet impressive looking procedure of draping an Indian ‘saree’ which manifests the strong bond between mother and daughter, and the much less impressive and complicated looking process of putting on a wedding kurta including pyjamas and a proper west. Since the saree, plus jewellery, hair and make-up needed much more time than the groom’s “getting-ready-phase, he got the task to make chai for everyone.

Part VI/VI

3:50pm - ‘YES, I DO!’ — the registrar confirms our identities and willingness to spend the rest of our life with each other…we took our oaths in Marathi (quite commendable for the groom)…some more long awaited rituals that do not need a description…the photos say it all…WOW, we are married! ♥️  4:00pm - Quick thank you to the Zoom members, expressing our respect and gratitude for all their patience, time, love and support, we were ready to collect our marriage certificate and happily leave the premises.  4:30pm - The pandemic did not allow us to have our backbones by our side. To complete this day, we drove to meet and seek blessings from our Gurus…Tai and Guruji… We are now ready to have some food and let the feeling of being married digest.

A huge shoutout to this incredible wedding crew, which literally pulled us through this day. You are the best team one could ask for!

Part V/VI

3:30pm - Another ‘Gauri-Haar’ moment for the bride as this time the groom goes to prove that he is single and legally capable of marrying her with our lawyer friend. Couple of other couples got married. Not to forget the rains, bladder, stomach and nose remained as it is or probably worse!! The groom arrived ♥️✨

3:45pm - Seema submitted the freshly received Affidavit. Finally, we were able to see some bright light at the end of an extreme long tunnel. We were ready to go ahead, quickly texted the families ‘IT’S TIME!’. Holding hands with pride and confidence…we stepped in!

Part IV/VI

1:30pm - In the meanwhile, another five couples got married, probably two of them arrived after us and we were still in the waiting area. With the bursting bladder and running nostrils, we now had a hunger to satisfy. Imagine, bride and groom trying to calm themselves down in any possible way, Vikram holding our wedding tray as fearless as a knight guard, Kapil searching for the most candid moments in the most un-candid situations and our incredible Maa holding literally all of us together….ah, and another couple got married.

2:00pm - They say ‘no news is good news’, this time it was absolutely annoying. While clicking more pictures for other couples and holding someone else’s devices, we sadly had to inform our family abroad that it would take an indefinite time and we disconnected for the time being. If and when we have a fixed time, we will restart the session. Till then, may patience and perseverance be with us all.
 2:30pm - ‘Is he single?’ — ‘Of course, he is. Even his visa says that his purpose to travel to India is to marry an Indian citizen.’ — ‘No, no…we need a document saying this.’ Seema tells us about this lovely conversation and we tried to find a solution. An Affidavit on a 100 Indian Rupee stamp paper would accept a German to be single…seriously. Chalo, let’s go to a Notary on our wedding day then! Yay!

3:00pm - Perspective groom: Seema, some other guy and myself arrived at the 18qm Notary office with at least seven advocates. This place alone was as busy as some city’s downtown places…really! Anyway, we gave all my data to these people and with that they formed an absolute random paper, which ‘certified’ my single-ness without any proof from the German side. If they say so…thike!

Of course, it is a huge honor to be mentioned during the important jubilee for this festival itself, but moreover it brought back so many memories of how our journey started and reminded us even more of how intense, yet inspiring and motivating the path has been.

Sometimes we look each other and memories flash in front of us..how we met, how we realized the love, how it grew, how we became an integral part of each others’ life - personally and professionally…!

Of course, it is a huge honor to be mentioned during the important jubilee for this festival itself, but moreover it brought back so many memories of how our journey started and reminded us even more of how intense, yet inspiring and motivating the path has been.

Sometimes we look each other and memories flash in front of us..how we met, how we realized the love, how it grew, how we became an integral part of each others’ life - personally and professionally…!

For the last 20 years the campus project of the DW and Beethovenfest brings young people together - in life, as well as on stage.   Good news first: They did it! Shivani Karmarkar, an Indian Kathak dancer and the German Drummer Tillmann Schürfeld said ‘yes’ to each other. They met during the Campus Project 2018.

Part III/VI

11:00am - As we reached, it started drizzling and our cab-dada wanted his last minute selfie and gave us his genuine blessings. What a lovely soul.  We are here! We can start! We can get married! But wait a second: who said that at least 20 couples in Corona times during the monsoons wanted to get married on the exact same day as well…didn’t expect that…this will take more time than anticipated.

11:15am - There we saw our bag of positivity: Vikram! Wrapping his warmth and love all around us, we met our dear friend and legal correspondent Seema. Our wedding crew was complete.   11:30am - Some basic document checks by Seema and the office people, the bride and the groom set up the Zoom meeting for their immediate family, Maa and Vikram beautifully arranged the wedding rituals’ tray…yeah, we are good to go!

12:00pm - No matter how much you prepare, there is always scope for further document verification, especially when there is a foreign national involved. From minute to minute we realised, the day is not developing as planned. The overtime begins.

12:30pm - The rains started to escalate, about three couples already got married, our bladders were bursting and the noses were running…Seema says ‘they’re just checking the documents, we’ll be ready soon!’
It was already 2am for our family in the USA, without any complaints they stayed with us and gave as much support as the rest of the family from literally all around the globe.  (The mobile data was vanishing like feathers in the wind.)
