Our first 2-3 days in Ireland were shockingly beautiful, with full sun and warm weather. Very unprecedented even for the summer, and every time we met a local the weather was the first topic of conversation. Once we made it to Achill Island, our final destination on the West Coast, the clouds kicked in and the usual stormy weather caught up with us. Achill Island is the region where my dad's family is originally from, specifically Tonragee which means "ass to the wind," as well as a rather desolate town across the water called Black Sod Bay. Most of our family moved to the US four generations ago in the early 20th century, but the historians in my family managed to locate what remains of the cottage that my great grandfather was born in before they left (which my dad is standing in front of in the 7th). One of the most rugged and fascinating places I've ever been before
