An Army Ranger, a Green Beret, and a…uh…another guy walk into a bar…

No, it’s no joke but there were many that flew across the table at today’s lunch!🤣

30 years ago, Matt Anderson, @timabell, and I met for the first time working together as Navy Seals on the set of Steel Sharks.

It bonded us for life. ❤️💪🏼❤️

Some dreams take years to find their moment. The best ones are worth the wait. Last night, I had the privilege of watching You Are Here, written and starring my friend, Army veteran and West Point graduate Jack Kennedy, and beautifully directed by his wife, Claire.

Fifteen years ago, when Jack first wrote the screenplay, Judd Nelson had signed on to play the lead character, Ray. As often happens in this business, time passed, and life moved on. When it finally came time to make the film, Judd encouraged Jack to step into the role himself.

What a gift that turned out to be. Jack delivers a phenomenal, heartfelt performance, and after seeing the finished film, I simply can’t imagine anyone else playing Ray. Sometimes the story knows exactly who it’s been waiting for all along.

Jack and Claire poured their hearts and souls into this film, not only as writers, actors, and directors, but as husband and wife. Now they’re traveling the country with their three beautiful children, sharing their film with audiences one screening at a time.

It is a wonderful reminder that perseverance, faith, family, and believing in one another can turn a long-held dream into something truly extraordinary. I was also incredibly proud to see so many fellow Veterans in Media & Entertainment members contributing both in front of and behind the camera, a testament to the talent, generosity, and spirit of our veteran creative community.

I couldn’t help but think back to the G.I. Film Festival 9 years ago, where I was honored to win the Pitch Fest for Rally Point, with Judd Nelson presenting the award. It was there that Jack introduced me to his lovely wife Claire, who was expecting their very first child. Last night, that little one was sitting in the audience alongside two younger siblings, watching their parents share the film they had spent years bringing to life.

It was one of those rare, beautiful full-circle moments that remind us why we keep believing in the stories we’re called to tell.

Congratulations, Jack, Claire, and your amazing team. Your journey is every bit as inspiring as the film itself.

For those who have yet to watch the ten-minute award-winning short film FATHERS AND SONS: A TERMINAL LIST STORY directed by @ryan32curtis, today, Father’s Day, would certainly be a fitting time to do so. Type FATHERS AND SONS: A TERMINAL LIST STORY into the YouTube search bar and it will come up.

I encourage you to check it out and then share it with Fathers and Sons.

The film is a moving portrayal of two friends and teammates bonding over sacrifice and time lost, hinting at whispers of redemption. Michael Broderick @thatbroderick plays Thomas Reece, a Vietnam-era SEAL and CIA Case Officer, and the father of my protagonist, Navy SEAL Sniper James Reece. Tim Abell @timabell plays Del, Tom Reece’s BUD/S Instructor and Teammate. We also find out how Tom Reece gets the Echols Rifle he gives to his son...a rifle that finds its way into the hands of Chris Pratt as he brings James Reece to life in the Amazon series adaptation of THE TERMINAL LIST.

Thank you to Michael Broderick for spearheading such a special project.

Happy Father’s Day!

“The greatness and nobility of man, as well as his highest expression of love for his Creator, consists in kneeling before God. Jesus himself prayed before knees in the presence of the Father.” ~ Cardinal Robert Sarah
