The new exhibition: „überLeben - Zwischen Dinos und Schuppenbäumen“ officially opened today at the @lwlnaturkundemuseum and I was lucky enough to get a first private look behind the scenes. Huge thanks for the invite 🙏🏼💙

Walking through 485 million years of history with world-class fossils found right here in Nordrhein-Westfalen is a trip. But for me, nothing beat standing face-to-face with the first ever complete reconstruction of a Wiehenvenator skeleton. Seeing those massive predator bones up close hits completely different when you love these creatures 🦖

All people who contributed did a phenomenal job with this exhibition. Everything from rare specimens, interactive stations to a big paleo-aquarium. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re anywhere near Münster.

This is just a quick first look. Expect some more content coming your way very soon 👀

Who’s planning a trip to check this out?

This bachelor’s thesis grew out of a project I became involved in somewhat by chance, and that developed over the past year. What began as a palaeobotanical and palynological study slowly shifted in scope, as small and easily overlooked details began to point toward a much larger palaeoecological story. A lot of that process also translated into palaeoart and reconstructions as part of the research — still under wraps for now, but more on that later ;)
Simply getting to work on material from an Edmontosaurus bonebed was pretty special, as it’s quite literally my favourite dinosaur as cheesy as that sounds haha
Bringing together a long-standing fascination for hadrosaurs with a more recent passion for palaeobotany and palynology made it possible to build a broader picture of one of the most well-known Late Cretaceous ecosystems.
From countless drafts, late nights, and more than enough coffee to the opportunity to present this work at two conferences (Geo4Goettingen & PalAss2025) — traveling, exchanging ideas, and speaking with researchers I’ve long looked up to — continually reaffirming why I enjoy doing this research :)
I’m deeply grateful to my supervisors for their trust, guidance, and encouragement, and to the Senckenberg Institute — a museum I adored as a child — for the opportunity to collaborate on their Edmontosaurus project.

And of course, thank you to my family, my girlfriend, and my friends for the patience, support, and encouragement during the many hours spent in the lab, researching, writing, and following along at conferences ;)

Plenty more in the pipeline… 🦕🌿
