Canadian professional cliff diver Molly Carlson, 28, has made history by becoming the first woman to dive from a free-standing iceberg. On June 11, she performed a backward dive from nearly 50 feet into the freezing Atlantic Ocean off Newfoundland, Canada.

Trained by renowned ice climber Will Gadd, Carlson had to scale the unstable iceberg, which could crack, collapse or overturn without warning. Describing the feat as the scariest thing she had ever done, Carlson said the challenge was also about confronting fear and overcoming personal struggles.

Important correction: Carlson is 28, not 39, according to multiple news reports.
