What an honor to have the legendary plantsman @timlovestrees check out our expanding gardens at @botanicgardentc today. It had been ten years since his last visit and having a moment for him and Karen to connect was the cherry on top of a great day at work. Glad to have so many @americanpublicgardens colleagues experience the slice of heaven we have here in Northern Michigan. . . . . . . #timdoeslovetrees #nomi #thebotanicgardenathistoricbarnspark #msu #msuspartans #plantsman #livinglegend #spartans #ibleedgreen #trees #gardendesign #itwasstiffgoldenrod

What a wonderful few days with the staff and plants of The Polly Hill Arboretum! Celebrating their 25th year, @pollyhillarboretum is not just a beautiful place but is an epicenter for botanical collections and plant knowledge. It was an honor to give a lecture on plant exploration, and was a joy to talk curation, learn new plants, and revisit old friends (people and plants!) The slide deck: 1. Stewartia ovata 'Red Rose' - luscious 2. Hypericum densiflorum -- love it 3. Hydrangea serrata 'Midoribushi Temari' - dainty 4. Lilium superbum - kapow! 5. Director Tim Boland with some Amsonia hubrichtii we collected in the Ozarks in 2014. Incredible. ***Damn autocorrect initially "fixed" this and put in 'Ammonia'!! 6. Sign announcing the evening entertainment 7. Photo of the entertainer 8. A Mini Cooper packed with plants!

Thank you to @l_coit and @timlovestrees for taking such good care of the garden while we were gone. Lots of pretty things to see when we got back, including the first Keiko itoh peony bloom, that allium (for you @millstreamfarm ), the clematis H. F. Young, and the lettuce/arugula/peas. The upside of cool, damp weather. . . . #sixburnersuegrows2022 #beauty #gardentherapy #gardeningforserenity #perennials #annuals #flowers #flowergardening #marthasvineyard

I have been looking up at the blue sky a lot as September 11th has approached. This morning I tried to photograph this 12 (yes, 12) -foot helianthus salicifolius (willow sunflower) (a gift from @timlovestrees ) which is only now just beginning to bloom and is uniquely tower-esque in our garden. Ironically, when i came inside to look at the photos, a daddy long legs was smothering the top bloom. You just never know. The sky was so blue that day 20 years ago. And yet. Sending love out to everyone who lost someone or endured trauma that day. 💙 #day70 #100daysofflowersandveggies #sixburnersuegrows2021 #september11

How lucky are we? To be driving past Martha’s Vineyard and to be able to stop and share time with two of our favorite people, at one of our very favorite places. Thank you for your generous hospitality and your friendship all these years. Best part… we got to cut a birthday cake for Laura!
