Tonight we launch The Richter Residence, a series of curatorial music events happening quarterly (future dates TBD), curated by @misterrichter. Doors at 7pm, free admission.

@jnqt and @quietstuart perform fictional ballades by 14th-century French composer Guillaume de Machaut. Westcoast Medieval Ambient. Opening is @patrickshiroishi and @tiesenga playing a saxophone duet.

While the music unfolds, a volunteer “scroller” from our current 5:17 exhibit will be present in the space, sitting alone with their phone for 5 hours and 17 minutes —what the average American spends on their device each day. Two parallel experiences of time, attention, and isolation.

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate the opening of EXCERPTS & FRAGMENTS: PAUL MPAGI SEPUYA!

Couldn’t make it? We’d love to see you anytime during gallery open hours:

📅 November 8–December 21
🕐 Thursday–Saturday, 11am–5pm
📍 2413 Hyperion Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90027

This exhibition brings together 20 years of @pagmi’s early zines, never-before-seen artist books, and photographic collages which are all intimate working documents that explore the fluid boundaries between photographer and subject, fragment and whole. From his time in New York to his current LA practice, these pieces reveal the evolution of Sepuya’s vision through shifting perspectives and layered compositions. And there is a special facade installation of his work on our exterior walls.

Presented by @nomadicdivision, curated by @notmagnum, hosted by @2413hyperion.

Photography support was provided by @a.n.d.r.e.w.s.c.o.t.t.

Stay tuned for additional programming and hope to see you there!

Don’t miss this Saturday’s opening of EXCERPTS & FRAGMENTS: PAUL MPAGI SEPUYA. This exciting show is organized and presented by LAND (Los Angeles Nomadic Division @nomadicdivision) and curated by Christopher Mangum-James (@notmagnum). For the last 15 years, LAND has been staging great work in variety of locations around Southern California. As their name suggests, they are truly nomadic. We are proud to make our space available for their latest.

Spanning two decades of work, this exhibition showcases the LA based artist’s (@pagmi) zines, artist books, and collages of intimate photographs that investigate fragmentation, shifting viewpoints, and the charged relationship between camera, artist, subject, and viewer. The show marks the first time these “working documents” take center stage, revealing key themes and evolution in Sepuya’s practice from his New York years to his present work in LA. The exhibition also extends beyond our walls with a vinyl facade installation featuring the artists’ photographs.

OPENING RECEPTION: Saturday, November 8th, 3-5pm
EXHIBITION RUN: November 8th-December 21st, Thursday-Saturday, 11am-5pm
LOCATION: 2413 Hyperion Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90027

Attendance is free with RSVP at the link in the @nomadicdivision bio.

Thanks again to @itzelshandpaintedsigns and @hecho.a.mano.studio for getting us sign ready.

We hope to see you there!

Scenes from the I OFTEN FORGET artist talk this week at 2413 HYPERION. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this! Today is the final day to catch the exhibit from 1-5pm. Come see us if you can make it out.

Jonas Kulikauskas’ powerful exhibition explores Holocaust memory and cultural erasure through present-day photographs of former Vilna Ghetto locations. Using a WWII-era lens on an 8 x 10 camera, his work reveals how history lives on in the spaces around us.

🗺️LOCATION: 2413 Hyperion Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90027

Thank you to all the contributors who made this project possible and to everyone who came out. If you were moved by what you learned, please share it with others. Passing along this knowledge keeps the memory of those lost alive. We remember.

Join us at 7pm tomorrow for a walk-through and moderated discussion of I OFTEN FORGET with its creator, artist Jonas Kulikauskas.

This compelling exhibition pairs photographs (captured with a WWII-era lens) of contemporary life in what was formerly the Vilna Ghetto with written narratives and archival elements to craft a moving reflection on remembrance and the enduring impact of collective trauma. While the historical events at the heart of this work are rooted in Lithuania’s past, the questions it raises extend well beyond those borders and carry particular significance in our current moment.

🎞️ARTIST TALK: Wednesday, October 29th at 7pm
🗺️LOCATION: 2413 Hyperion Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90027

The exhibition remains on view for the final two days of October (30th and 31st) from 1-5pm. Please don’t miss it, we hope to see you there!

Contributors to the project include Dr. Jon Seligman, Dr. Saulius Suziedelis, Tomas Venclova, Cantor Rita Glassman, Dovid Katz, and the Vilna Gaon Museum of Jewish History (Vilnius, Lithuania).

The events which inspired the show are specific to Lithuanian history, but the themes it explores resonate far beyond and feel especially relevant today.
