If you ever need a living, breathing, singing, endearing example of Christ’s love, compassion, and integrity, one need to look no further than this man right here. @timothypalmer you have been a steady reminder that love is real and that true power looks like humility and selflessness. Your willingness to be vulnerable, sharing your story without shame; the courage you exhibit when you unapologetically stand with Gaza, women, LGBTQIA+ folx, people who struggle so mightily with depression, et al; the soul-rending decisions to see the character of Christ through a lens markedly different from your peers in today’s American Evangelical community. You are one of the finest examples of what it means to be a man. You believe in people. You believe in the healing power of community. You exemplify what it means to be a husband, a father, a brother, and a friend. I am so very grateful to have been able to bear witness to your journey and story. It has been one of the finest experiences in my short time as Cecilia and in the work we get to do in Abilene. I am so proud of you, Tim. I sincerely hope your day is filled with people honoring you, celebrating you, filling your inboxes with gratitude and love, and I hope that you know how deeply cherished you are by this community … as well as this old drag queen. Thank you for your example. Thank you for your friendship. Happy birthday, brother. I love you. #leader #integrity #community #hero #friend 1st two photos: @thejleestudios

I’ve always believed that sharing your story allows others to feel less alone. Saturday night I got to do just that. Alongside four other magnificent storytellers, I got to share a little bit about identity, acceptance, and the words that stay with us and how they shape our lives. Thank you to @timothypalmer for producing this event! I hope this is the first of many such opportunities for storytellers and story-listeners alike. Thank you for believing in your vision enough to make it a reality! @ahhlene and @seven.and.one.books were, as they always are, excellent hosts for this event. Listen, if you haven’t been to seven and one yet, WHAAAAT are you waiting for!? It’s the best book store in the Big Country and some of the best PEOPLE in the Big Country get to work there! Folks like my buddy, @barrettroberson_ 🙏 Arlene, thank you for your mama’s heart and your love … especially your love for me. You are magical 🫶 @serayah_cheyenne and @mollyhunt it was so wonderful seeing the two of you reunite and share such a beautiful moment together. It was a pleasure hearing your words, experiencing your vulnerabilities and hearts. You are two incredibly gifted women. What an honor to be there with you both! Y’all … share your story with someone this week. Maybe there’s a moment from your childhood, etc. that even your best friend doesn’t know about. What a beautiful chance to let them in and allow them to see you a little more clearly. Love y’all. Have an amazing week! #storyteller #downtown #abilenetx #abitx #stories

One of the most influential people I met in my days at McMurry was Timothy Palmer. Assistant Chaplain at the time I was there. Life changes were happening and I was learning a lot about myself at the time and we met weekly and he mentored me and we learned so much from each other. Life has happened to both of us and we have been on our own spiritual journeys since our days there. Recently he came out with this poem and I immediately knew I needed his beautiful art on my bookshelf. His poem “What If You Had One Last Thing You Could Say” is beautiful and really makes you think. I know wherever I go in life, this man will always have an impact in some way. Everyone needs a Tim Palmer in their life. “Please be people of peace and not machines of war” is a line that sticks out to me like a sore thumb and is absolutely advice we should all live by.

I'm putting up my Christmas tree way too early this evening, which ended up being the perfect way to end All Saints Sunday. As I pulled the different ornaments from the box, memories of family, friends, and churches came to mind. I'm thinking about the impact of places like Glen Lake Camp and past churches have had on my faith. I'm giving thanks for friends from high school and college. I'm remembering my trip to Bethlehem, the crafts I've created with others, and people like my Aunt Dana who passed away earlier this year. I'm grateful for the cloud of witnesses, both on earth and in heaven, who have taught me the faith and have reminded me of who I am as a Child of God.

Sometimes, current events cause such a seismic ripple that even the most carefully crafted plan just doesn't quite fit anymore. The attack on Al Ahli Arab Hospital and the UN-run school in the Al Maghazi refugee camp the week of the Belief & Belonging Festival was soul-crushing. It was clear Oct. 7th was only the beginning of lives lost and communities destroyed. How could a festival in Central Texas hold space for its local and global livestream audience? Enter Timothy Palmer. Timothy is an artist in every definable way and was slated to speak. He also grew up in the West Bank, was intimately tied to the hospital, and his heart was heavy. Still, he wanted to share his story. This early release video is the opening of the 2023 festival because at BBF we believe that stories matter. They help us understand why we are who we are, and they close the divide between us if only a fraction, by their telling. It's important to acknowledge that our struggles are not simply a matter of perspective, but a genuine physiological condition that requires compassion and support. How can we better support and destigmatize mental health challenges to create a more compassionate society? . . #mentalhealth #wellness #destigmatizementalillness
