Dear Swimming,
This is a post I didn’t think I would have to make for a couple of years…

After a lot of prayer, I’ve realized that competitive swimming is not meant for me anymore. There are many reasons I have made the decision to retire from competitive swimming.
So many things have changed from what they once were. Unfortunately not every change is a good one.
My body has taken quite the beating. After passing out who knows how many times, 3 knee injuries, 2 surgeries and a torn pec(twice) my body has helped me decide it is time to call it quits.

I’ve spent pretty much all of my life in the pool, I can’t even describe how much swimming has changed my life.
Swimming has shaped me into who I am today, but it is not who I am.
A few years ago, this would never have been something I would’ve been able to say.
Now I can say,
Swimming does not define me.

To all of the coaches who truly believed in me, who put in extra effort and showed that I was not just another swimmer, but that I could excel at what I do. Not just in the pool but in who I am as a person. Thank you.

To all of my teammates who have had my back and supported me throughout my career. Especially those who will continue to be there even if we aren’t teammates anymore. Continue being awesome.

Most of all thank you God for letting me have this journey. Through the ups and downs I’ve been taught what it means to be a leader, a friend, a teammate, a coach.

My family has supported me swimming since I was born. Traveling for my meets, all the early mornings bringing me to practice, all of the gear and equipment. The countless amounts of money spent to make me be the best swimmer I could possibly be. I could not have done it without them.

To my mom (aka Coachy Robyn) who has been my coach from the beginning, the best coach I’ll ever have. I love you. Thank you.

Just because I’m not swimming competitively anymore doesn’t mean I’m not a swimmer. I’ll still be in the water, I’ll still swim, and I’ll always love this sport. I just won’t be chasing times or medals.

Thank you swimming,

Morgan Roszel
