TONIGHT Join us for a screening of COEXISTENCE MY ASS! Filmmaker Noam Shuster Eliassi grew up the literal poster child for the Israeli-Palestinian peace process before making a hard pivot to stand-up comedy and political satire. But as the region sinks deeper into devastating violence, she must meet the moment by challenging her audiences with hard truths that are no laughing matter. Saturday August 29, 7:30 PM The Yard 4 Hanna Lane Beacon, NY 12508 Presented by Jewish Voice for Peace-Hudson Valley. Register here: https://tinyurl.com/ykrhy23m

🇵🇸 “When crimes against human rights and dignity are normalized, it doesn’t stay localized to one place. Instead, it enables it against anyone and everywhere.” — Tina Bernstein @tinamixedmedia and Arthur Camins @caminsarthur ✉️📫 From the Letter to the Editor from Tina and Arthur submitted in advance of Saturday’s No King protest. “The reported death toll in Gaza is now over 75,000, including approximately 17,000 children. The health care system has been decimated. Indiscriminate attacks on civilians, violence, and forced civilian mass evacuations continue in the West Bank, and now in Lebanon. There is complete destruction of human habitation in Gaza. People are starving. These are war crimes and crimes against humanity. “This continues despite the declaration of a ceasefire. “And all of this has been done with the support, cover, complicity, and encouragement of the United States. “There is a direct line from normalizing war crimes in Palestine to Trump’s extrajudicial execution of people on boats in the Caribbean. From getting used to dehumanization of Palestinians — to the kidnapping and detention in camps of immigrants here.” 📝The rest of the letter is here: https://www.alittlebeaconblog.com/blog/why-the-struggles-for-peace-dignity-and-freedom-in-the-us-and-palestine-are-inextricably-linked ************ Support ALBB for independent local media: https://www.alittlebeaconblog.com/reader-support Subscribe to ALBB’s Free Newsletter: 💌 https://mailchi.mp/alittlebeaconblog/newsletter-signup #beaconny #alittlebeaconblog #nokingsbeaconny #hudsonvalley #thingstodoinbeaconny

Roll Out is Community! In 2024 we added a Community Press to our annual event. We had a small press on site to print the fish carved during our free community workshops. Led by Roll Out artists @sarahmdaley with support from @lalacasita the Community press was so successful that this year we brought in a @takachpress etching press (thank you @fledglingpress for bringing it and @theyardbeacon for having a forklift to take it off the truck!) For the first time this year we offered free 2’ x 2’ blocks to anyone interested in participating —- Elders, HS students, artists who have never carved before, experienced printmakers who didn’t have the capacity to carve a massive block, folks who attended our free community workshops, parents and teachers of 5th graders participating in Roll Out’s mythical beast project. Some artists worked solo, some worked collaboratively. The participating artists were as diverse as the prints they created. And wow, the prints were gorgeous! From 12-3:30 the Community Press printed 2 prints of the 2’ x 2’ wood carvings. At 3:30 we dropped the press down to lino height and printed the fish from our free community workshops. The energy, joy and artwork created on 11/18 on the community press was amazing. The space became an impromptu classroom. In the early part of the day when the space was still quiet you could walk by and here @sarahmdaley explaining in intricate detail how the print process works to a 9 yr old while she inked a carving and then printed it. The child was enthralled. Roll Out is a printmaking collective committed to community, creativity, education and printmaking for all. The Community press is all of that and more. Thank you to the incredible @flynnlarsen for her photographs that capture the joy and energy of the day. Thank you to our sponsors! @artsmidhudson @theyardbeacon @beaconarts @garrisonartcenter This project is made possible with funds from the New York State Legislature and administered by Arts Mid-Hudson . . . #communityart #printmakingforall #rolloutbeacon #beaconarts #steamrollprintmaking

Still reflecting on the incredible joy of the community coming together to wish us a happy 10 year anniversary. Hearing about what Binnacle has meant to you fortifies and inspires us for the coming decade. Truly we cannot thank you enough, but we promise to be here for you as long as we can. We talked about beginnings and futures. We laughed together and one of us maybe cried but only a little. A very very long and personalized thank you was written but there’s no way it would fit on this post so instead, Thank you to each and every one of you, and for making the evening possible to: @wildarcfarm @bagelishbeacon @hudsonvalleybrewery @hamadaltourah @saboonmaazeh @french.wednesday @callme.maritza @m_trecka @caseyandr @samquon @ellemaye63 @butihatepepperoni @fareground @martindfowler

“Jewish Voice for Peace Hudson Valley, and our partners of conscience are calling people into the streets for an All Out for Palestine Rally and March,” say Tina Bernstein and Anna Jacobs, representatives for the group. “With the US as its collaborator, the Israeli Government has been committing a live-streamed genocide and now is brazenly proclaiming its plan to completely occupy Gaza and execute this plan through forced starvation and displacement of millions of Palestinians.” Tina Bernstein, who is Jewish, has been speaking out against the genocide of Palestinians since the day it started, and recorded a podcast episode with A Little Beacon Blog, describing her feelings so early in the mass murder of Palestinians. “As Jews, we have lived this before and recognize this moment as a dangerous rise in fascism, and an escalation of the ongoing genocide in Palestine. We will not stay silent and we will continue to stand up for Palestine, and demand the US government stop supporting Israel. We say ‘Not in our name’ and ‘Never Again is Now.’l Who: Jewish Voice for Peace Hudson Valley and partners partners. What: All Out for Palestine Rally and March Where: Kingston, NY Mini Park. 21 North Front st Day: Saturday, May 10th, 2025 Time: 6PM Visuals: Banners, live music, participants are asked to wear black, bring pots and pans and an offering to leave in remembrance. 🎵🎤 @esamighty ************ 💰Contribute to ALBB for independent local media ☺️♥️: https://www.alittlebeaconblog.com/reader-support Join ALBB as a Member Advertising Sponsor for regular features or Business Listing 💫 https://www.alittlebeaconblog.com/mediakit Stay connected: 💌 https://mailchi.mp/alittlebeaconblog/newsletter-signup #beaconNY #hudsonvalley #dutchesscounty #albbbusinessdirectory #albbthingstodoinbeaconny #thingstodoinbeaconny #albbrestaurantguide #albbshoppingguide #localmedia #independantmedia #independandtjournalism #hudsonvalleyevents #hudsonvalleyhappenings #thingstodonewyork #daytripbeaconny #beaconnydaytrip #trippingbeaconny

One year. Every day this year we woke up to terrible news, worse than the day before. In the beginning i had a little hope. Surely the world will see what is happening there, the death and destruction by an oppressor, the injustice that has been happening for 78 years. Surely people, world leaders will step in and say enough. Enough dead babies? Nope. This year I learned how personal racism is, how people around you can say things with ‘good intentions’ not realizing how twisted their words are. Or how some people won’t say anything at all. I learned how much - how staunchly- the world doesn’t care about Arabs. I learned how evil this world really is, how they have no fear of God, to allow this terror to continue, now seeping into other sovereign lands. But through the rage and grief and frustration and anger and guilt I did whatever i could, small things, to at least feel like I’m making a difference. I think we were all trying to do something to make this stop. A community was built. I’ve never seen so many people stand for Palestine. I never thought I’d see people cross the bklyn bridge waving so many flags. Flood Park Ave, Central Park west, Washington square park a sea of umbrellas in the rain, bay ridge, Pohill park in the rain,Kingston on a steamy day, PK in freezing weather. For Palestine. The world sees us now. I think the world is forever changed, not just by what happened in October but by what has been allowed to happen and intensify unchecked. How our western leaders have failed us, allowed the international laws they wrote to be violated over and over again, setting disastrous precedents for years to come. This year has changed me and many of us already and it will be remembered for generations . The veil has been lifted. Free Palestine 🇵🇸
