Woodland, waterfalls and Abbey ruins.

A little jaunt across the border into Wales today for a stroll along part of the Angidy trail towards the Abbey Tintern Furnaces. There was woodland and waterfalls, followed by the impressive ruins of Tintern Abbey.

The boys appeared tired so we headed back to our weekend home @chapelhillstables where, to our amazement, 2 minutes in the car was enough to restore their energy, as they had us throwing balls in the secure dog paddock.

We've been having the best time here, hope you've all had a wonderful weekend too.

Monumentos do maior cavaleiro que viveu. William Marshal

Nobre menor e sem terras herdadas, ele ascendeu ao topo do poder na Europa por meio de sua lealdade inabalável e habilidade marcial incomparável, vindo a servir fielmente a cinco monarcas britânicos

Lenda dos torneios: Após ser armado cavaleiro em 1166, Marshal passou décadas competindo em torneios de cavalaria pela Europa central. Estima-se que ele tenha derrotado e capturado mais de 500 cavaleiros ao longo de sua carreira invicta, acumulando enorme fama e fortuna por meio dos resgates.

Protetor de Reis: Marshal atuou como conselheiro real, tutor militar e comandante de elite para Henrique II, o Jovem Rei Henrique, Ricardo Coração de Leão, João Sem-Terra e Henrique III.

Casamento e Riqueza: Em 1219, sua lealdade à coroa foi recompensada com a mão de Isabel de Clare, a herdeira mais rica do reino. O casamento o transformou no Conde de Pembroke e em um dos maiores proprietários de terras da Inglaterra, Gales e Irlanda.

Regente e a Magna Carta: Já idoso, permaneceu ao lado do impopular Rei João durante a revolta dos barões que culminou na assinatura da Magna Carta em 1215. Com a morte de João, Marshal foi nomeado Regente e Governador da Inglaterra para proteger o jovem rei Henrique III, que tinha apenas 9 anos. Nessa função, ele derrotou os rebeldes ingleses e invasores franceses na Batalha de Lincoln (1217) e reeditou a Magna Carta para pacificar e estabilizar a nação.

Morte e Legado

À beira da morte em 1219, aos 73 anos, Marshal cumpriu um antigo desejo e ingressou formalmente na ordem dos Cavaleiros Templários. Ele faleceu em Caversham e foi sepultado na Temple Church, em Londres, onde sua efígie de pedra do século XIII permanece preservada até

What a beautiful way to start my time in England and Wales. I saw the historic Tintern Abbey ruins, overheard the @britimpmilband performing at a real deal Welsch castle, and played my first ever show abroad all in one day. I’ll be mostly offline for a bit so I can really take the rest of this experience in, but damn if I’m not grateful 🥰 had to make a quick post to say: Thank you to @loudwomen & @lepub for inviting me across the ocean, @shebeatmusic for lending me her baby Taylor, @eilisfrawleydrums for the pics and video, and the dear new friends who’ve showed me around and made me feel at home.
