Thank You to @littlebrownyoungreaders for sending an arc of this picture book in exchange for an honest review.

This book is sweet, wholesome, whimsical and informative all at the same time. The illustrations are beautiful, The story is compelling, and it teaches children about the way that nature helps each other. This book is perfect for elementary school students. A great read aloud for Late October/ early November as the animals start to hibernate. Can’t wait to get a copy for my school’s library when the book releases (Feb 2027).

We’ve been living above our means….

Metaphorically speaking, of course. A lot of you have been asking about our thoughts on the past few nights of Jeff Tweedy shows and so we’d thought we’d share some with everyone.

All those nice things you’re hearing about the shows; it was actually better than that. Sorry, we don’t want to rub it in if you were not there, but it’s true.

Maybe it was the way that he was interacting with our beloved Roosevelt Rd; cracking jokes about the sirens and weaving it into the show, or maybe it was the hum of the Turano trucks that sometimes even seemed like even they were trying to be quiet. (Y’all know the Roos does not like to be quiet). As a friend of ours put it, “that was so Chicago”.

Maybe it was the banter between songs with his wife or bringing his kids on stage for a song (on separate nights)?

Maybe it was the perfect 68 degree weather every night after a sweaty and wet summer?

Maybe it was seeing y’alls faces in those deeply meaningful parts of those songs we all know.

Whatever it was, we both agreed on Saturday morning that those were the best shows we’ve ever seen.

A big thank you to everyone who came out and experienced that with us, it will be a shining moment for us in, what we hope to be, a long run at FITZGERALDS.

The brilliant collaborative show BLUR is sadly coming to a close. BUT TONIGHT, August 25th from 6-9PM @preachergallery, please come join us as we celebrate the work of seven unmistakably talented women with a proper reception closing party!

BLUR features original work by Han Cao, Emily Geirnaert, Diana Sudyka, Mel Kadel, Marcella Colavecchio, Abi Daniel, and Jana Swec, BLUR brings together seven different perspectives, moving through memory, nature, identity, storytelling, and imagination. Each artist brings her own distinct voice and way of making.

A huge thank you to Better Half and Hold Out Brewing @betterhalfbar @holdoutbrewing for so generously sponsoring the show and helping us bring tonight to life. Give them a shout and show some love for being part of our gallery and creative communities - we are truly grateful.

So please join for one last look (or maybe your first look if you missed it), a nice drink, and a little art before we close the doors on BLUR. Invite friends, families, dogs… All welcome, all ways.

Austin! It’s real hot! But @preachergallery has cold cocktails, industrial A/C, and such an amazing art show opening TONIGHT from 6-9PM.

We’re so honored to open our doors for BLUR - a collection that brings together the work of seven truly incredible women. All artists whose voices are unmistakably their own, and whose work reminds us why we love doing what we do.

Each creator comes to this exhibition from a different place, with a different way of seeing and making. From Han Cao’s Banned Book Series, Diana SuDyka’s Endangered Species on vintage envelopes, and Mel Kadel’s whimsical characters to Jana Swec’s vibrant landscapes, Emily Geirnaert’s stark collages, Abi Daniel’s rich still lifes, and Marcella Colavecchio’s colorful contemporary scenes, these works wander through memory, nature, identity, storytelling, emotion, and imagination. Together, they create a conversation that feels deeply personal and alive.

We hope you’ll join us tonight an evening of art, celebration, community, conversation and music from DJ HEY MOON.

A few years ago, Diana Sudyka found a stack of antique envelopes in a dumpster after an estate sale. The envelopes held letters exchanged between a livestock farmer and an accountant in the 1930’s and ’40s.
She started wondering about the land those letters came from and the plants, animals and insects that lived there before the landscape was changed by agriculture.
For Blur, Diana painted six endangered species in watercolor directly onto these envelopes. Each animal connects to the state represented by the envelope’s postage stamp, creating a conversation between the natural world, human activity, and the landscapes we’ve changed.
Diana is an illustrator and artist based in Evanston, Illinois. Her work spans illustration, posters, and picture books, drawing inspiration from natural history and folk art traditions.

This is a beautiful pairing to learn about the might oak tree. THANK YOU, OLD OAK begins with the tree toppled from old age. Those of us in the Northeast can relate to trees falling from high winds. All the creatures that depend on the oak come to pay homage but the tree’s usefulness is not over. As the tree decomposes, it fosters more creatures. The end matter includes how to read a tree’s rings. JUST ONE OAK is a free verse poem that celebrates the life cycle of the oak tree. Interesting factoids are included on every spear. Also, creatures in the tree’s ecosystem are included in the illustrations along with their identification. The end matter includes suggestions for growing an oak tree from an acorn. Both picture books are gorgeously illustrated. Enjoy this pairing at home or in a classroom. #stem #oaktree #picturebook #nonfiction #summerlearning
