Maladie d'automne

Everyone loves an autumn book reel and autumn is my favourite season for children’s picture books! The whimsical illustrations, warm colour pallets and heartwarming, funny and meaningful stories are all so beautiful. Some of these are old favourites, others are new ones that we’ve added to our collection this year. One thing they all have in common is that we love to read them again and again. What ones do you like or would love to read? 🍁🍂🌰

🍂 Caught my first falling leaf of the season – the tiniest and most raggedy leaf imaginable, but it made me very happy. Have you caught one yet?

🍂 It’s become an autumn tradition to post @tiphanie_beeke's heart-meltingly beautiful falling leaf illustration from Fletcher and the Falling Leaves to celebrate, so swipe for the leaf which launched all Fletcher’s adventures.

🍂 Happy autumn leaf catching!

A forest trail in Connecticut has a children's book displayed page by page in glass frames along the path so visitors can follow the story as they hike.

Book's called "Fletcher and the Falling Leaves," by Julia Rawlinson and illustrated by Tiphanie Beeke.

🌈 Returned from holiday to a glorious garden rainbow – the horse chestnut leaves the star of the show, glowing gold against the red and orange berries, green leaves and dazzling blue sky – so I had to capture a Fletcher and the Rainbow celebration of autumn colours.

🌈 The second photo shows the Fletcher and the Rainbow Colour Hunt activity sheet, free to download from the resources page of my website, if you’d like to look for a nature rainbow of your own.

🌈 For people who’ve found me recently through Fletcher and the Falling Leaves, Fletcher and the Rainbow is our little fox’s second autumn adventure. It’s all about the colours of nature, and ever since I wrote it I’ve been happily photographing nature rainbows as well as writing stories – keeping an eye out for colourful flowers, leaves, minibeasts, pebbles…

🌈 If you’re not in the UK and the book hasn’t reached your local bookshops, you can order online from @blackwellbooks or Fletcher’s UK publisher @graffegbooks. Happy autumn colour hunting!

🍂 What’s your favorite fall children’s book?

None of these books have Halloween in them although Autumn in the Forest shows a jack-o’-lantern.

My husband hates the end of summer but my toddler and I love EVERYTHING fall and Halloween!! For her birthday last week all she wanted to do was go to a pumpkin patch! We love the coziness of fall, cute sweaters, picking up leaves on our walks, cider and donuts, and of course pumpkins! I love decorating the house for fall/Halloween, mums, and still drinking iced coffees despite the cooler weather 😂 Here are a few of our favorite fall books to cozy up with as the season changes! 🍂🍁🐿️🐻

In Fletcher and the Falling Leaves, Fletcher pats his tree’s rough bark… which made me think about bark rubbing!

I love nature exploring with Fletcher, so over the last few days I’ve had lots of fun (and attracted some strange looks) taking rubbings of local trees and making a new activity sheet. Fletcher also hugs a tree’s rough trunk in Fletcher and the Stars, so the sheet can be paired with an autumn or winter story. The gorgeous illustrations are by @tiphanie_beeke – older children can explore the wonderful colours and patterns in her artwork before going out to look at real trees.

The new activity sheet, and lots more activity and colouring sheets, are free to download from the resources page of my website.

Happy bark rubbing with Fletcher!
