Background:
Hi, I’m Flour. 👋🏼

I made my way up from Mississippi with my bestie Two Socks about a year ago. Two Socks has since found her forever family — which I’m VERY happy about, obviously — but I’ve been patiently waiting for someone to realize that the large, fluffy love of their life has been right here this entire time.

For the last few months, I’ve been living the foster life, and let me tell you… I GET IT NOW. Homes are amazing. Sofas? Incredible invention. Peace and quiet? Huge fan. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I even have a foster sister named Daisy who has been helping me come out of my shell and showing me the ropes. I’ve been getting more comfortable every day, starting to enjoy my walks, and learning that life can actually be pretty darn good.

And apparently I’m full of surprises because despite being a Great Pyr mix, I’ve hung out with cats AND chickens. Yes, chickens. 🐓 Please hold your applause.

My hobbies include:
🤍 Lounging
🤍 Couch potato-ing
🤍 Enjoying the peace and quiet
🤍 Slowly but surely exploring the world on walks
🤍 Being an oversized teddy bear
🤍 Wondering why nobody has adopted me yet

I’m a big boy with an even bigger heart, but underneath all this fluff is one seriously gentle soul. I don’t need a crazy life. I’m pretty content just hanging out with my people, soaking up the calm, and knowing I’m safe and loved.

I’ve waited an entire year.

I watched my friend find his family. I’ve gotten a taste of what having a home feels like. And now I’m patiently waiting for the day when my foster home doesn’t have to be temporary anymore.

So if your type is big, fluffy, gentle, slightly lazy, and perfectly happy spending Saturday night on the couch…I’m your guy

We are heartbroken to share the loss of our longest resident, Mia—our beloved Mimi, aka MimiMooMoo—after 1,683 days at LDR.

Mia joined us on January 14, 2022, after being surrendered when her family’s new baby developed allergies. We soon discovered this Manhattan girl had serious stranger danger & unpredictable feelings about other dogs. Earning her trust took time—but once you did, she loved you SO BIG.

Less than a month ago, Mia had several low-grade, non-metastatic mast cell tumors removed. Her bloodwork was normal, and we believed she was in the clear. But on Saturday, she stopped eating & became lethargic. By Sunday morning, we knew something was terribly wrong.

At @veg, Dr. Raja Basak-Smith—an LDR adopter—immediately performed an ultrasound & discovered large, bleeding tumors on Mia’s liver, spleen, and heart. An aggressive metastatic cancer had developed with shocking speed. Treatment was not possible, and bringing her home risked painful, catastrophic bleeding.

Amid our shock, we made the devastating decision to let her go peacefully. Dr. Basak-Smith and his team kept her comfortable while those who loved her dropped everything and drove from across the state to say goodbye.

True to form, Mia threw herself a party: a packed room of familiar faces, pizza, cheesecake, Taco Bell, and a Baja Blast. Around 5 p.m. Sunday, surrounded by people who loved her as their own, she peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge.

Mia may never have been officially adopted, but she absolutely found her forever—albeit unconventional—home & family at Lucky Dog Refuge. Her life here was joyful, overflowing with love, and she was HAPPY.

Our deepest gratitude to Dr. Basak-Smith & the VEG team for their extraordinary compassion, and to Dr. Cline & @vcadarien for caring for Mia throughout the years.

Saving dogs takes a village, and when the village loses one of its own, we grieve together. Mia was deeply loved & will forever be a Lucky Dog legend. Later this week, we’ll share more of our favorite Mimi memories.

Run free, our sweet & spicy, senior girl 🤍 We know Coal, Johnny, Halo & Layne welcomed you with open paws—and that you’re already the queen of the rainbow bridge 🌈🤍
