Meet Oluwatoyin Awosanya, one of the talented playwrights you will see this Friday 27 February 2026 at the Sheraton Hotel. Oluwatoyin Awosanya is a multidisciplinary artist with experience as an actor and set designer, and is currently entering the playwriting world. Through her plays, she explores complex identities and social tensions in realistic, contemporary settings. Set in late 2017, Heavenly Bodies follows two fashion designers preparing a Met Gala look for a celebrity client. As they move between personal banter and creative excitement, fatphobia surfaces in subtle but cutting ways within their world. She is the founder of Centra Cultural Collective, an organization committed to supporting Black creatives and entrepreneurs through film, theatre, and community engagement. “Beauty Behind the Norms” is a powerful drama set in West Africa that explores the tension between tradition and change. It follows Ada, a young woman forced into a polygamous marriage, as she fights for education, freedom, and self-determination. Her resistance challenges patriarchal norms and sparks a broader conversation about women’s rights in a traditional society. It is time to say goodbye to everyone who was part of my experience in Canada. It was seven months of great learning and connections I will carry forever. I had the privilege of sharing a home with two incredible women who affectionately welcomed me and made the distance from home easier. Thank you for making me feel so well accompanied on this journey. I have also found the best lab colleagues I could ever wish for at Memorial University. Thank you for welcoming me as part of the team, for making the long days lighter, and for every conversation, laugh, and support during this period. Thank you for the encouragement and affection and for making the Scientific environment more human, welcoming, and inspiring. I learned a lot from each of you! I am also grateful to my host advisor, who accepted me as his student during this exchange. His teachings and support were fundamental, and they will undoubtedly fuel the next steps of my journey. None of this would have been possible without your generosity. I take with me not only data and results but true friendships, unique experiences, and a heart full of gratitude.
