Loved doing these Scotswood Road billboards for the Tish Murtha & Kuba Ryniewicz exhibition @balticgateshead.

Beautiful #TishMurtha shots on homeground and a stone’s throw from where they were originally taken.

Sam Fender - People Watching

Sam Fender, silver vinyl, and Saturday night plans. People Watching hits completely different on physical media - deeper, more honest, and purely cinematic 🌪️

People Watching is an absolute masterpiece of everyday stories, melancholy, and observational storytelling. Sam Fender has this unique gift for turning raw human experiences into piercing indie-rock anthems. And this silver deluxe edition is pure eye candy.

Spent some time with this beautiful @tishmurtha book published by @britishculturearchive this morning. Although I’ve seen most of the images before, I discover something new each time I turn a page. The people in the photographs still commune the joy, struggle, rage and beauty of their lives through their eyes and the empathic gaze of Tish Murtha’s lens. Two other things that make this collection something to treasure: 1) words that help to frame the photos: Tish’s stunning Youth Unemployment essay, Ella’s tender, heartfelt intro and Jen Corcoran’s @ohnococo_ powerful, incisive essay; 2) The design and quality of the paper and binding, you can feel the weight of this book both physically and emotionally. Congrats, all 👏🏽

Today would have been Tish Murtha’s 70th birthday. And while it’s a tragedy that she isn’t here to mark the occasion, we can still celebrate her work and the remarkable endeavours of her daughter, Ella, to establish Tish as one of the finest documentary photographers to create images of and with working class people. I’ve just pre-ordered a copy of Vandalism on a Grand Scale, a new book collecting Tish’s work published by @britishculturearchive and featuring words by Ella Murtha and Jen Corcoran @ohnococo_ (who produced @tishmurthafilm). The first 1000 copies will come with an exclusive fine art card featuring the cover, so order one while you can.

What a fantastic year for this album!
It really is an album that everyone perceives differently, but it is equally meaningful to everyone!
Many people joined the ranks of 'legends' after this album, an album that achieved incredibly fantastic things, an absolute success! It is a project that everyone involved should be proud of!
Happy first anniversary, People Watching!

This week we’re highlighting selected prints and editions from @bcaprints.

Angela and Starky, Newport, 1976 by Tish Murtha.

An honest moment that has become a defining image from Tish Murtha’s early work, taken whilst she was studying at Newport College of Art. A tender moment between two people staying close during a hard winter.

It’s a photograph that has stayed with many over the years, including Magnum photographer David Hurn, who has spoken about this as one of his favourite images by Tish.

Tish Murtha’s prints are available exclusively through @bcaprints

Shop the Tish collection online at BCA. Link in bio.
