Next time you are in Boise, please visit The Common Well @commonwellboise , the brainchild of artist Katherine Shaughnessy @shaughnessy.katherine and Amber Lawless @thefortbuilder . On view until July 24 is Kirsten Furlong’s @kirsten_furlong “To Talk About Trees” , which examines political and environmental injustices through her art by employing images of flora and fauna that as the artist explains, “serve as both emblems of nature and as metaphors for human desires.”

In addition we took a look in Katherine’s studio and saw her work “Old Glory / New Glory” - a deconstruction of the American Flag and the Mexican Flag woven together, and her work “Don’t Fence Me In”, in response to the southern Border wall. I look forward to seeing where these works land - thoughtful and timely meditations on the United State’s current political climate.

Brava, Katherine (and Tom)! Great to see you and meet @ksiegler and @carterproy too!

Dang southern Utah!
Goosenecks State Park was breathtaking.
From there head north on 261 for one of the craziest drives you’ll ever take.
Great National Forest camping — we have recs.
Spiral Jetty.
Garden City and Fish Haven at Bear Lake are worth a visit. The best preserved tiny homes! and no photos.
CRATERS OF THE MOON OMG.
EZ found her first ever squirrel — dead and dried. Squirrel jerky.
Great show at The Common Well in Boise.
James Castle House is a Boise gem.
Our Boise friends are the best. Don’t wanna leave.

PART 2

Oh, to be IN LOVE WITH THE WORLD!

We think it’s perfect that we’re ending the year with these words glistening on our gallery window. Big thanks to artist Benny Merris for giving us such a wild and wonderful exhibition of new works made here in Idaho. His paintings are pure joy and will be on view through January. Come by!

Meanwhile, we’re taking a minute to reflect on another miraculous year at The Common Well that was chock full of boundless energy emanating from every corner of the building. From exhibitions and artist talks, residencies and workshops, pop-ups, performances, conversations, concerts, celebrations, plumbing disasters, and field trips near and far — we did it all.

We have so much love and gratitude for our ever growing community of artists, writers, makers, musicians, performers, poets, curators, collectors and patrons. Thanks for dreaming big with us. And thanks, especially, to the Alexa Rose Foundation, who partnered with us on our Show & Tell Artist Residency Program and Mural School which proved to be invaluable and transformative for so many local artists.

Want to get involved in 2025?

* We have Studio, Office & Event Space Available for Rent. If you’re looking, write to us at hello@thecommonwellboise.com.

* Sponsor an Artist or Art Exhibition. If you or your business would like to contribute, write to us at art@thecommonwellboise.com.

From the bottom of our hearts, Thank You & Happy New Year!

Ready for the readers. What a fun day catching up with old friends, speaking with West Texans and signing books. There are three copies left waiting in Alpine at the legendary Front Street Books shop. Thank you, Ann, Julia and the rest of the @front_street_books team! #bookstores #alpinetx #visitalpine
