It’s taken us some time to process, but one week ago we said goodbye to our sweet Riley. At 14½ years old, she had been such a huge part of our lives for so long that it’s hard to imagine our home without her.

Riley was my and Tommy’s first dog and our constant companion. She was there through so many chapters of our lives and was always right by our sides. She always wanted to be in every picture, always greeting you with that sweet smile, and always happiest when she was with her people.

And she definitely had a personality all her own. She started out with those razor-sharp puppy teeth, became an expert escape artist, and would let us dress her up in all sorts of funny costumes.

She was Tom’s faithful coworker, always close by to supervise his workday. And she was the best big sister to Callie.

More than anything, Riley just loved being with us. She didn’t need much—just a spot beside us, butt scratches, treats, and to be part of whatever we were doing, following us around the house, or just being her happy, sweet self.

We were so incredibly lucky to have 14½ years with her. She gave us a lifetime of love, laughter, companionship, and memories that we will carry with us forever.

As hard as it was to say goodbye, we are grateful that she went peacefully and that her final years were filled with the same love she had given us her entire life.
We miss you more than words can say, Riley girl. Thank you for 14½ wonderful years. You were so loved, and you always will be.
