POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

With Internationals only 2½ weeks away, I’m soaking in every milestone leading up to the big moment — starting with my experience at SOAR.

This Fall, I’ll be attending Tennessee Tech University as a Design Studies major concentrating in Architecture & Interior Design, and SOAR gave me a glimpse of the creative, inspiring world I’m stepping into.

From exploring campus to connecting with future classmates, it felt like the beginning of something I’ve been working toward for years.

SOAR reminded me that growth happens when you step into new spaces with confidence, curiosity, and purpose — and that’s exactly the energy I’m carrying with me to Internationals.

Preserving the past, one scrapbook at a time.

Archives and Special Collections student assistant Chloe Alto is a History Major with minors in Digital Humanities, Geography, and International Studies. Chloe created housing for Phi Mu's scrapbooks from 2002 to 2022 and for the Afternoon Rotary Club President's scrapbooks from 1997 to 1999. In total, she created new protective housing and labels for 26 books!

The 55th Annual Smithville Fiddlers' Jamboree is right around the corner from July 3rd to the 4th! Did you know that the Tennessee Tech Archives & Special Collections houses, preserves, and makes the records of the Smithville Fiddlers' Jamboree available to researchers? Here are some throwback photos from the 70's!

The Smithville Old Time Fiddlers' Jamboree and Crafts Festival began in 1972. It started as a small-town event aimed at celebrating the Fourth of July and has continued to honor Independence Day and pay homage to the music and art of the Appalachian region. Since its beginning, it has brought thousands of musicians, crafters, and spectators from around the world to participate.

Center Hill Lake has long inspired artists drawn to the natural beauty of this region — and the Appalachian Center for Craft is one of the best places to experience that creativity firsthand.

Perched above the lake, this unique destination offers something completely different from a typical day on the lake. Inside the gallery, guests can explore rotating exhibits alongside handcrafted pottery, glasswork, jewelry, wood pieces, fiber art, and other one-of-a-kind works created by talented regional and national artists.
Many of the pieces are available for purchase, making it the perfect stop for meaningful gifts, souvenirs, or distinctive home décor that reflects the spirit of the area.

Whether you’re visiting for a weekend getaway or you live nearby, the Appalachian Center for Craft is a reminder that the beauty of this area extends far beyond the water itself.

Tech, thank you for everything 🫶🏻

"There's so many things that I should be
And so many more that I'm not
Two weeks ago, I was ready to leave
It turns out I'm not

I worked so hard to fuel this dream
But, I thought the journey would last forever
I learned that sometimes you are your own team
And, I now know it takes true kindness to be clever

Life is what you make it
Storm clouds never last
Every moment is yours if you take it
Love your life through every act

Your impact on others is your legacy
But, who you are today does not define you tomorrow
Start today living every moment intentionally
And, the rest will piece together and follow

I've learned that everyone does not deserve your heart
Some people will choose you in convenience
Choosing yourself and protecting your peace can be the hardest part
But losing yourself and who you are is never worth the cost of your resilience

So make today and every day to come about yourself
You're only young once
Never sacrifice your fire for someone else
Or turn your own light to rust

Your journey through college revolves around self growth
Learn to love yourself and who you truly are the most
If you skip that part the journey gets hard, and you'll veer off the road
Take the time and spend your dimes on your heart and mind, and never lose out on hope

Tears will come when pain creeps in
But, without the clouds and rain, we'd never see the sun
Feel the ache and take it in
Because hurt and love come and go as one

There's many things that I wish I was
But, one thing I deserve to say to me, and I hope you can one day say to you
I don't regret a single step of the way because every heartbreak and breakthrough led me to say to myself 'I'm proud of you'"

-Ethan Tyler Boles 5/25/26

Now and then I reread the manuscript,
but the story isn't mine... anymore 𖹭
