I had the best 19th birthday party I could ask for and many happy flaps were had. It was such a beautiful thing to see everyone collaborate to make sure everyone was safe AND had a good time 🥹😭

Things we did, and things you could do to make your party or events accessible and inclusive, could be…

🎀 Opening the conversation with guests to make sure they know you are a safe person to speak to if they need anything!
🎀 Asking guests about access needs and dietary needs — every person will have different access needs and even those who don’t identify as disabled may have access needs
🎀 Not using flashing lights
🎀 Making sure the venue is a good temperature and isn’t freezing cold or too hot
🎀 Avoiding overly bright lights but making sure the space is well lit enough for safety
🎀 Designating and informing people of a quiet space to step out if they’re feeling overwhelmed
🎀 Writing down information about wheelchair accessibility of the venue for guests
🎀 Giving out name tags for people to write their names down with pronouns
🎀 Writing ingredients lists for homemade food items
🎀 Giving basic instructions on how to safely prepare allergy free food for anyone making homemade items

The party was ironically hosted up 20 steps because I couldn’t find an accessible and affordable venue but people worked together to carry 4 wheelchairs up the stairs which was so lovely 😭💕

I am so incredibly grateful and happy to have met these friends of mine and I’m so lucky to know them. It’s been so lovely in the weeks since seeing all of these people I know start to bond with eachother too and a little family start to form 🥹💕
