Honestly, the whole thing was EVERYTHING! The vibe, the venue, the music, the energy… everything was just as I had imagined it and MORE. It’s one thing to dream up a moment, but to actually live it and then get to relive it through these videos? What a gift!

I keep watching and smiling, discovering little moments I missed in the midst of all the excitement. The laughter, the dancing, the people, the pure joy of it all. My heart is full.

So, what have we learnt? MORE PARTY PLANNING, PLEASE! 🥂😂

Fifty is reminding me that anything is possible. We can keep dreaming, keep creating, keep exploring, keep saying YES to life and keep allowing ourselves to be surprised by what is possible.

This new chapter is about curiosity, wonder, joy and giving myself permission to experience life in new ways.

1. ASTOUNDED BY GRACE

Half a century. And I still don’t have the words.

God has been kinder than I can explain, more merciful than I can measure, and more faithful than I could ever deserve.

I am simply astounded. And grateful. So, so grateful.

There is something profoundly humbling about making it to fifty.

To have lived, loved, lost, survived, begun again, and still be here to tell the story.

I don’t take this life for granted. Not one breath. Not one moment.

Thank You, God, for the privilege of being alive.

I keep looking at these pictures, and all I can think about is God’s goodness.

Not because everything has been easy, but because through it all, His grace has kept finding me.

Fifty years of life. So many chapters. So many mercies.

God, You have been good to me.

FIFTY.

I say it, and it still doesn’t quite feel real.

Half a century of living, learning, falling, rising, loving, and becoming.

And here I am, standing in the evidence of God’s mercy.

My heart is full. My spirit is humbled. My gratitude is immeasurable.

Half a century is not lost time. It is lived time.

It is every version of me that had to grow, every lesson that changed me, every ending that made room for a beginning.

And above it all, God’s grace.

I am not standing here because I got everything right. I am standing here deeply aware of how blessed I am to have made it this far.

Fifty looks like gratitude on me.

FIFTY

Having a birthday photoshoot was something I had always wanted to do, but I never quite knew how to make it happen. Then I discovered that my friend Seye of @barestudioslagos was a photographer. Without having seen much of her work, I trusted her, and she trusted me. Together with Tobi of @tobiduru , who knows my face and genuinely loves it, we created magic.

And oh, what magic it was!

There is something profoundly beautiful about stepping into fifty and seeing yourself through the lens of a woman who appreciates you, sees your beauty, and captures something of your essence.

Every woman deserves to see herself through Seye’s lens. ❤️

But what I will remember most isn’t just the photographs. It’s how joyful, playful, present, and free I felt. I laughed with an abandon I haven’t experienced in a very long time, and my inner child was having the time of her life.

My cousin Temitope reminded me of something important: life isn’t always about becoming a sage. We must also remember the joie de vivre the sheer joy of being alive.

The delight of living, loving, learning, being silly, flirting with life, and allowing ourselves to be surprised by it all.

She says we can start becoming sages at 99 years and nine months. But for now?

WE ARE HAVING FUN!

Fifty feels like permission: to take up space, be seen, love deeply, try new things, and enjoy the life I am still creating.

I am grateful to Seye for capturing this moment, to Tobi for helping me feel beautiful and at home in my own face, and to Temitope for reminding me that wisdom and playfulness can coexist. I am also grateful for the woman I have been, the woman I have survived becoming, and the woman I am now.

Today, I choose wonder. I choose the joie de vivre.

I am fifty. I am here. I am alive. And, darling, I am just getting started.

Here’s to many more years of living, loving, learning, and playing. ❤️

Starting again can be humbling.

Especially when you remember who you used to be.

But I’ve learned something important:

Starting again does not mean starting from zero.

You bring your experience.

Your skills.

Your mistakes.

Your relationships.

Your lessons.

Your scars.

Everything you’ve lived becomes part of what you build next.

So if you’re starting again, be gentle with yourself.

You’re not starting from nothing.

You’re starting from experience.

These days, peace interests me more than proving a point.

I don’t need everyone to understand me.

I don’t need to explain every decision.

And I certainly don’t need to participate in every argument I’m invited to.

Peace isn’t a life without problems.

For me, it’s knowing what belongs to me — and what doesn’t.

It’s being able to meet life without constantly abandoning myself in the process.

That kind of peace feels very valuable now.

My body and I have had quite a journey.

I’ve spent years thinking about what it weighs, how it looks and what I thought it needed to become before I could fully enjoy it.

Then life, motherhood, ageing and menopause taught me something different.

This body is not a project.

It is the place I live.

It has carried me through so much.

So now I’m learning to care for my body without making my worth dependent on changing it.

That feels very different at almost 50.

Motherhood has taught me things I couldn’t have learned from a book.

Patience.

Advocacy.

Fear.

Courage.

And the ability to keep showing up even when you’re exhausted.

I’ve also learned that my children don’t need a perfect mother.

They need a mother who loves them, listens, learns and keeps showing up.

And while they’re becoming themselves, I’m still becoming myself too.

Maybe that’s one of the beautiful things about motherhood.

We grow alongside each other.
