Lion Attacks Buff
While on a photo safari yesterday in the Chobe National Park, we witnessed a very wild scene. A younger male lion was lounging along the Chobe river. While we were watching, the big cat started stalking a group of impala. Mid stalk the lion heard a cow Cape buffalo emerge from the river just to our right. The lion then spun around and started back toward us after the buff. The buffalo was taken down just out of our sight behind a bush. The land cruiser pulled up, and we witnessed the lion gnaw on the buff for a full six minutes. The cow’s distress moans finally brought two male bulls in to assist. One bull licked the cow on the face, and then proceeded to help her up and push the lion away. The cat then cut back and jumped the cow for a second time. The lion proceeded to let the buff up for an unknown reason and the cow ran into the Chobe River.

Carson had made up her mind that she really wanted to pursue a Nyala. The species is a spiral horned antelope native to S. Africa. We are so proud.

I have often read and dreamt about hunting Africa and Cape Buffalo in particular. Feel super blessed for the opportunity. One of the Big Five, they are often referred to by the nicknames Black Death and the Widowmaker. Big thanks to my PH @tiaangerber16
