Please, let me tell you a story. We went to southern Il as a family one spring and stayed at the beautiful Bell Hill Inn bed & breakfast. The kids ran wild, pushing each other on the tree swing, and chasing after all the feral cats on the property. Julia, the fabulous inn owner, told the girls about two kitties that had recently been born & abandoned…. both FULL of fleas! She then proceeded to teach the kids how to rid kitties of said fleas. Holding them gently by their heads, she began dipping them in a large bucket of water, (keeping the kitties heads above the water). When the fleas hit the water, they’d ’jump ship’ and make a futile mad dash towards the edge of the bucket. Any stragglers from the head or ears got plucked off by Julia, and thrown back in the bucket. You probably know where this is going? The kids begged and pleaded and two days later we drove home with one male kitten. We named him “Julian” after our Inn owner Julia, but we called him “Julie” his whole life. He was always a pretty feral cat. He never really loved being held or petted.. well, just on his terms. He was beautiful! actually loved the dogs! As he aged, he was a bit of a curmudgeon. But he was our curmudgeon. After having to euthanize multiple cats, two dogs, one horse, and handful of guinea pigs (just in my adult life) it NEVER gets any easier. It’s the loss of a family member, and the loss of an era, which is sad. Thanks for the memories and the lessons, Julie. Rest easy now bud. #family #familypets❤️ #cat #familycat #love #sadness #julie #buddy
