“Coastlines” is the title track from the forthcoming EP by Todd Modes & Ryan Spencer out November 6th on Hold Me Recordings (Detroit MI). It’s a Balearic street soul groove that opens with FM pads and a swung 909 break. The track features a slow chugging bass line played by Phil Cho (Sy3, Puli) as well as dubbed out sax and keys played by Detroit Jazz virtuoso Stephen Grady. Breathy spoken word by Jen David sits on top of the arrangement and is delayed into obscurity. Swells of glassy synths, reversed drums and overlapping synth melodies, the track is the blueprint for the rest of the record: 4 tracks of Dream House, Dub, and Downtempo.

Last halloween we released Slim Media Players - Spooky theme for free for a couple of days only, some of you were really upset about that and we got messages here and there. no one wanted to pay the $666 dollars we set it too... naturally...
This year we come back with a remix from our favourite Detroiter - Todd Modes, he whips the OG into raw groove house fashion only he can do. Stoked to have him in the family now. long long time fans.
We are also happy to announce a remix from Weirdos inc. captain who destroys the track and reforms it into a psychedelic new waver. Tripped out stomper. ft a bass guitar jam from our brother Diodore (angel science).

Todd Modes has carved out a distinct place in Detroit music through a deep, wide ranging approach to records. His releases for Golf Channel Recordings and FIT sit in the deeper end of dance music, while his influences stretch through hip hop, jazz, funk, soul and beyond. That range comes through in his DJ sets, where different eras and styles can sit comfortably beside one another without feeling forced. His range gives him plenty of common ground with Shigeto while leaving the B2B open to move in unexpected directions.

We’re back Friday, August 28 with RELAY, bringing four selectors together across two back to back sets.

Shigeto and Todd Modes share the booth first. Both come from a deep appreciation for hip hop, jazz and beat driven music. Shigeto’s work draws on jazz, hip hop, live percussion and electronic music, while Todd Modes carries a similarly wide background into his own cosmic, soulful take on house and dance music.

ameera and Sugar close things out with an all vinyl back to back. ameera is a Detroit vinyl selector whose sets pull from jazz, jazz fusion, boogie, disco, funk, hip hop and 2000s R&B, with records that pair in unexpected ways. Sugar digs in the same world, trading soulful, rhythm forward selections alongside her. Two selectors on wax, each record answering the last.
