It’s not every day, or even every month, that you get the opportunity to work with a player whose club has sent him home to begin his rehab.

It’s kind of like being handed a present and being told, “Be careful.”

You have to be precise, calculated, and delicate in your work. Every decision matters, and every step of the process has to be intentional.

Stay tuned over the set of videos for a peek inside the rehab process and how we worked through each step along the way.

Together with @toledorobi , we managed the early stages of this rehab.

To the surprise of absolutely no one, my work is based closely on a peer-reviewed, evidence-based, and in-depth hamstring rehabilitation protocol (Grant’s version 😉)

The goal is simple: follow the process, respect the timeline, and progress each stage with purpose.

Even though the hamstring was the injured structure, it’s important to consider the surrounding musculature and its role in pelvic stability and co-contraction.

Next, we begin working through the “running” limb position, activating the hamstring through various ranges of motion in a more fluid, dynamic movement.

The goal is to progressively introduce the positions and movement patterns the hamstring will need to tolerate as we work toward running.

Isometrics! I don’t have to say much more.

This exercise uses a progressive isometric approach, starting with a 5-second hold in one position before progressing into greater knee flexion and a new position of increased hamstring demand.

Progressively loading the hamstring while controlling the range and intensity.

Run-specific body positioning with wall drills.

Working on posture, limb positioning, and coordination in positions that closely replicate the demands of running.

Half kneeling hamstring lift with rotation.

If you think the hamstrings don’t play a role in rotation, I challenge you to try the next few exercises and see how they feel.

Active hip extension with a focus on hip internal rotation on the GHD.

Continuing to challenge the hamstring through hip extension while incorporating hip rotation and control.

One thing you often don’t see in my work is the incorporation of soft tissue techniques.

Elite rehabilitation is built on communication and attention to detail.

Session updates are discussed with the club’s medical staff so we’re all working toward the same goal. That collaboration allows the athlete to move through rehab with consistency and confidence.

This week, the focus isn’t just on building hamstring capacity, it’s on the details. Small coaching cues, including introducing rotational demands where appropriate, help prepare the athlete for the realities of football.

Return to play is a milestone.

Return to performance is the objective.

Back home to get the process started.

This player returned from Europe to begin the first stage of his rehab with us. The focus is simple: build the right foundation before progressing to the next stage.

Successful rehabilitation is never a solo effort. Working alongside @toledorobi and maintaining constant communication with the club’s medical staff ensures everyone is moving in the same direction throughout the process.

Today’s session focused on:
✔️ Pain-free range of motion
✔️ Neural gliding
✔️ Position-specific isometric loading
✔️ Lower-body strength
✔️ Aerobic top-ups to maintain pre-season fitness

Early-stage rehab isn’t about doing the most. It’s about doing the right things, at the right time.

Vertex is the home for every athlete - no matter if they’re playing in Israel or abroad.
