MAKESHIFT Talks Programme 25 Nov 2026 – 14 Jan 2027 As part of MAKESHIFT, we're bringing together artists, makers, curators, fabricators and other practitioners for a 10-part public talks programme exploring the practical, critical and professional questions surrounding three-dimensional making. Responding directly to what artists have told us they want to understand better, the programme explores materials, processes, scale, fabrication, exhibition, sustainability, technology and the realities of sustaining a physical making practice. At its centre is a simple proposition: how work gets made matters. Through artist talks, conversations and workshops, our invited speakers will share what they've learned through doing: the decisions, experiments, relationships, resources and working conditions that shape their practices, alongside the challenges, failures and unexpected outcomes that often remain out of view. Rather than formal lectures or definitive how-to sessions, these conversations offer opportunities to exchange knowledge, ask questions and think collectively about what artists need to make ambitious work possible. The talks sit alongside MAKESHIFT's practical workshops and contribute to PINK's wider research into the facilities, knowledge and shared resources that could support a future artist-led fabrication facility. We're excited to be bringing together this group of practitioners to share their thinking and experiences with us. Full programme, dates and booking information coming later this week! MAKESHIFT is supported using funding from the UK Government. Design: @2091studio MAKESHIFT 3D Art Talks Programme poster on an off-white background. Large, distressed dark lettering reads “MAKESHIFT” across the top. Below, a collage of illustrated tools, sculptural objects, architectural structures and human figures radiates from a central circle. Bright turquoise text identifies ten talk themes: Factories + Material, Natural Materials, Green Manifesto, Social Practice, 3D Accessibility, Site-Responsive, 3D Outdoors, Building Conditions, Physical + Digital, and Exhibit 3D. The design uses black, grey and turquoise with an experimental, cut-and-paste aesthetic. Bottom right reads “In partnership with SAWN” alongside the SAWN logo.

I officially have a new favourite art fair! Congratulations @fairplayartfair on your inaugural fair - what a great location, buzzing atmosphere, amazing artists, and a fabulous @elrayotequila bar. All my favourite things under one roof. It’s so nice to go to an artist-lead fair and hear about their work, inspirations and practice first hand. Some very interesting chats with super-talented individuals, some of whose work I would never have seen. Get down to One Marylebone Rd this weekend! #fairplayartfair #contemporaryart #artconsultant #artcollector

How do you sum up 5 years in a few photos and paragraphs? I can’t really but I’ll try… For all of the glitz and glamour (which there has been plenty) and all the incredible artworks (which there has been even more of) my prevailing memory of my time at Soho House will always be people. Wonderful, ambitious and kind people. People who have taught me what art is truly about. People who taught me to hang my first picture. People who have become a community and a shoulder to cry on. When the building sites, overnight hangs, install plans and picantes are all gone the people will always remain. Thank you to every single person who has made the last 5 years a dream for that wee 23 year old art history graduate. I’m forever in your debt. On to the next adventure!

A special evening shared in wonder beneath the heavens. 🌞🌑✨ Gathering with friends, cacao in our cups, a little nature altar, and the extraordinary beauty of witnessing the solar eclipse together. Grateful for the people, tie land, the skies, the laughter, the stillness — and for sharing this rare moment together. 💙

@anartistsinfo is currently recruiting its new Artists Advisory Group, and I can only encourage you to apply. Deadline: Sunday 5 July 2026, 11:59pm. I’ve put the information pack in the link in my bio. If you don’t know much about a-n, it was founded in 1980, originally as a newsletter circulating practical information between artists. It has grown to become the UK’s largest membership organisation and leading advocate for visual artists, campaigning on crucial issues—from fair pay to intellectual property rights—ensuring that artists’ voices are heard and helping shape policy at the highest level. a-n is also part of the International Association of Art (IAA), a global network representing professional visual artists. It currently holds the presidency of IAA Europe, a network of around 40 national member organisations across the continent, with artist @boyjerome serving as President. From 2022–2026, I had the privilege of chairing its Artists Council—composed of fifteen artists from across the four nations, representing a wide range of practices and lived experiences—and sitting on its Board, where my role was to bring the Council’s perspectives and priorities into the organisation’s strategic conversations. I can honestly say it’s been one of the most empowering professional experiences I’ve had. I’ve learnt so much from the other artists around the table. This is what makes a-n so special: it’s genuinely artist-led and really believes in creating spaces where artists can shape the conversations and changes they wish to see in the sector. This new iteration will be different: fewer members and a shorter mandate, creating more opportunities for artists to gain this experience and step into leadership, while contributing their expertise as a-n continues to advocate for artists’ livelihoods. You absolutely don’t need to have served on a board before! What matters is having something you care deeply about and a desire to advocate collectively for the changes our sector needs, whether that’s around disability justice, racial equality, fair pay, access, or other issues affecting artists today. It’s a paid opportunity. More info on the carousel.

We are now in the last two weeks to catch The Thinking Hand 👀 The Thinking Hand is a process-led exhibition by artists Tanvi Kant, Richard Phoenix, Tom Pope and Anne-Marie Watson. The project is unfolding through participation and exchange, engaging with our neighbourhood and local communities, turning Devonshire Collective’s gallery into a site of shared making. The ‘thinking hand’ refers to a form of knowledge that emerges through doing. Drawing, repeating, playing, assembling, drumming, making, writing and listening are some of the ways you will be invited into flow and experimentation through hands-on activity. We invited the four artists based on the South Coast to respond and collectively position the gallery as a resource for our communities to participate in. Photos: Rob Harris

Sharing event last week @devonshirecollective. I used edits of recordings made so far in the show on cassette & played with @s_am_k_ with readings from @annemariesrevolutions @jencalleja_ and @pollewright (not every show you get to perform with the curators ✨) oh and myself reading the text that prompted @lindsaycorstorphine to make the ‘Shimmer’ record. All amongst everything else going on in the space, was a good time. X Photos @josie.durant 🙏🏻

I am currently in residence as part of the process led exhibition The Thinking Hand curated by @pollewright and @s_am_k_ at @devonshirecollective It’s been a generative experience where we’ve made plans for workshops, curated markers of presence and offered gentle questions about how people might approach my practice together or alone. It’s also important to recognise that this invitation has taken me out of my comfortable place, at home writing my tiny text over and over again on large or small sheets of paper, immersed in the process. Coming out of this space into the gallery I’ve needed familiar touchstones to remind me of this space, and to evoke this process for others, a table, paper, fine line pens. And quietly something else is happening, a thinking out loud, a presence which occupies more than just the page, curiosity that stretches and expands through conversation, mutual interests, sound and participation. I’ve also wondered about my resistance posting about this project. Somewhere I got stuck wanting to post something finished or professional. A sense that I had curated myself well. What can describe this work most faithfully and ultimately who’s judging all this and why does it feel like it matters so much? Thanks for staying with me @pollewright in this state of unknowing it’s been a joy so far I'm hear Thursday and Friday then come visit us all on Wednesday 10 June 3-7pm @devonshirecollective for our sharing session @richardjphoenix @tanvikant @tom__pope
