After a bit of a breather, I’m getting a moment to reflect on being part of this incredible project for @glasgow_2026. What a dream come true to be able to bring an idea to life in such a monumental way! And to connect with so many people through the work, and to hear so many great stories about the crane and its history. And of course, to be reminded of how essential Mackintosh and Margaret Macdonald are to Glasgow’s identity and cultural heritage.
The Glasgow Rose was created by a team of super talented people- thank you so much to @newsubstance, in particular to @hannahroze and @harrymaybedell for all your support; to the Glasgow 2026 team, especially @kat.boon and Chris Ansell, and to the awesome @sheetfabsnottm who made the rose a reality and suspended it from the Finnieston Crane, no less. It’s been a privilege! ♥️🌹

This meant so much to me - MCR were my last band on my 'must see' list. Little Josh in 2006 playing Runescape, escaping from the world through this music, would love to see it.

SO... LET’S TALK ABOUT @sheffdocfest 🤘⚡

What a week.

To have the World Premiere of @ultimatethunderdoc at Sheffield DocFest was something we could only have dreamed of when we first picked up a camera four years ago.

To have the band there on Saturday, shouting at the screen, laughing at themselves, and then delivering a Q&A for the ages afterwards (followed by a beautiful performance from Matthew - see pic 10) felt like the perfect way to celebrate finally getting this film out into the world.

The response has honestly blown us away. It’s been incredibly moving to see how the film has resonated with these first audiences. So much so that we somehow ended up winning the Audience Award — a particularly special one because it’s voted for by the people who actually watch the films. Thank you to everyone who came out, across all the screenings.

What’s even more surreal is that we did all of this without big backers or funding. Just four years of graft, favours from mates, far too many all-nighters, a brilliant community of supporters, and a stubborn refusal to give up.

A huge thank you to everyone at Sheffield DocFest — the programmers, staff, volunteers and everyone behind the scenes who make it such a special festival. We met brilliant filmmakers and lovely people from all over the world, and left feeling inspired, energised and ready for whatever comes next.

This film started with a group of mates from Leeds who just wanted to play music. Now it’s connecting with audiences in packed cinemas. That’s pretty special.

We can’t wait to share it with everyone else now!
