MACS BEACH HOUSE | THE SLOW LIFE

A little insight into the inspiration behind a coastal holiday home currently in concept development.

I’m drawn to the nostalgia of old beach houses. The simplicity, the imperfections, the mix of furniture collected over time and the feeling that nothing is too precious.

For this project, I’m exploring a slightly different approach to coastal interiors. Less of the expected all-white aesthetic and more warmth, character and individuality. A mix of mid-century influences, vintage finds, utilitarian details and natural materials that will only get better with age.

Above all, it’s about creating a holiday home (or bach as they call it in NZ) that encourages a slower pace of life. Somewhere to disconnect, spend time together and enjoy the simple pleasures of being by the ocean.

A house designed to be lived in, not just looked at.

The Studio ab. Edit. 002 | Metal Works

An exploration of metal in its many forms. Stainless steel, aluminium, nickel and silver, each with its own character, finish and way of interacting with light.

From highly polished, reflective surfaces to brushed finishes and sculptural forms, there’s something incredibly beautiful about the versatility of metalwork.

I’m particularly drawn to the contrast between the strength of these materials and the softness and fluidity they can achieve. Industrial yet refined, sculptural yet delicate, with some pieces feeling almost jewellery-like.

A collection that celebrates materiality, craftsmanship and the unexpected ways metal can bring texture, movement and personality into an interior.

Looking to bring together furniture, lighting, art and objects that feel distinctly yours? I’d love to help. Reach out to find out how we can work together.

Opens tomorrow!

Presented by @vertdesignstudio Interpretations is an ongoing exhibition series exploring the adaptability and currency of industrial design.

For its sixth edition, Interpretations invited local designers to experiment with carbon fibre — exploring its material qualities and potential.

“Carbon fibre is a material that has been in use and development for more than a century. But its use has been relegated to performance sports and transportation. The material is underused because designed are ‘gatekept’ from engaging with it.” — @andrewcsimpson

Location: @barometergallery in Paddington

Opening Hours:
Friday 16th 10 am - 6 pm
Saturday 17th 10 am - 6 pm
Sunday 18th 11 am - 4 pm
Monday 19th 10 am - 6 pm

We’re excited to announce the launch of Interpretations VI, an experimental exhibition exploring the possibilities of carbon fibre.

Interpretations is an ongoing exhibition series curated by Vert Design, held every two years. Each instalment brings together local design pioneers to explore a particular material or manufacturing process, celebrating the adaptability, creativity and continued relevance of industrial design.

For this sixth instalment, we’re showcasing work by a talented group of designers pushing the boundaries of carbon fibre through experimentation, material exploration and unexpected applications.

Curated by Vert Design (Andrew Simpson, Caity Duffus and Eloise Cleary)

Exhibition from Friday 16th - Monday 19th October 2026.

We look forward to welcoming you to the exhibition!

Lighting is one of the most expressive elements you can bring into a space. It sets the mood, draws your eye and gives a room a different life after dark.

For our first Curio lighting edit, Part 01: The Sculptural Edit, we’re sharing five studios and designers we’ve worked with, visited or admired. From sculptural statements to a softer glow, each brings a distinct perspective to light.

1. In Common With
2. Volker Haug Studio
3. APPARATUS
4. South Drawn
5. Tom Fereday & Rakumba

Save this for your next project, or tell us which piece you’d love to bring into your own space.

For the curious, always…

Concord Residence by @designists

A masterclass in contemporary residential design, Concord Residence by Designists brings together sculptural architecture, considered materiality and refined detailing to create a home that feels both striking and effortlessly liveable. Anchored by natural stone, warm textures and beautifully resolved joinery, the interiors strike a balance between understated luxury and architectural expression.

The kitchen is a standout, pairing the precision and performance of @gaggenauofficial appliances with the sculptural minimalism of @pittcooking_aus, where integrated burners sit seamlessly within the bench top.

WHEN THE LIGHT FALLS
Objects After Dark.

Lighting can completely change the way we experience a room. The same furniture can feel warm, intimate, dramatic, or almost entirely different depending on where the light comes from. Yet lamps are often chosen as an afterthought something functional to fill a corner or brighten a table. These floor and table lamps suggest something different. Their shapes, materials, and proportions make them feel like furniture in their own right, becoming part of the visual language of a room.
