So I started photographing musicians in the mid 1980's - at that point, I closed the door on any plan b & put ALL of my energy into trying to make it happen... I worked hard, got lucky, & here we are... I'm a music photographer!... It's my dream job!

As the years passed & I got friendly with more & more musicians, I began to dabble with making music myself, bought a 4 track tape machine & had a play - in 2003, my friend @jamesfjohnston & I actually started a band... he enjoyed my naive racket & graced me with the time & patience needed to produce a couple of albums...

Fast forward 20 odd years & I'm still dabbling with music... I love combining it with photography in a different way to the portrait based work - I take particular pleasure in putting the sleeves together, trying to select an image that I feel captures the spirit of the music.

my band @tenebrousliars have just released 'VIVA tenebrous LIAR', the title is inspired by the photographs used on the cover, which were taken in New York... the opening track 'Julio', is all about New York capers, starting & ending in different bars in different decades, both on Ludlow Street on the lower east side of Manhattan.

We're playing a handful of shows in June, sharing a stage with some of our friends... @driftinsound , Richard Warren, @spalton , @complianceunitnoise ... hopefully, we'll see you down the front!

tenebrous LIAR will play four shows in June to mark the release of the new album, VIVA.

We're over the moon to be travelling & sharing the bill with @driftinsound & Richard Warren... additionally, @complianceunitnoise will kick proceedings off in Coventry & @spalton will be closing the curtain in Norwich.

We had the tremendous honour of being joined by our great friend Richard Warren last night in Norwich - Rich & Steve met eighteen years ago when enlisted to back Mark Lanegan as part of The Sulsavers touring band. Rich went onto produce four TL albums.... Thanks to Chris, The Holloway, The Breedling, Rules for Radicals, Allies of Ferns & all of our other new friends for an ace evening (photos by Chris Spalton)
