CHAPTER 05 VOL 2 , NOW LET’S TALK BUSINESS.

So, can a car actually be an investment?

It comes down to what the car is, what makes it special, how it has been preserved, and whether there is a market that continues to value it.

In Volume 1, we entered the world of collecting.

In Volume 2, Mr Tayyab, Head of @tomini.classics, takes the conversation further beyond admiration and into the business behind the automobile.

Because when passion meets knowledge, the conversation changes.

Behind the wheel of the legendary Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing.

That beautifully simple dashboard, huge steering wheel, manual gearbox and the view down that unmistakable bonnet… imagine experiencing this in the 1950s. ❤️

Would you dare drive it?

One of the most beautiful cars ever made… and worth MILLIONS. 🤯

Up close and inside the legendary Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing. Those doors may be iconic, but the engineering underneath was equally extraordinary.

⚙️ 3.0-litre fuel-injected straight-six
🔥 Around 215 bhp in standard period specification
🕹️ 4-speed manual
💨 Up to around 160 mph, depending on gearing
💎 Only 1,400 Gullwing coupés produced from 1954–1957

And the value today? A 1955 example sold for $1.644 million in August 2026, while Hagerty currently values an excellent-condition 1955 Gullwing around $1.75 million and a concours example around $2.25 million.

The ultra-rare 29 aluminium-bodied Gullwings are in another league entirely, with Hagerty’s current guide putting even a “good” example at $6–7.17 million.

Automotive art with a price tag to match. ❤️
