We took a 2001 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS and essentially turned it into a 2004 WRX, right down to the wiring, interior, and HVAC system.

This wasn't your typical Subaru engine swap, and it wasn't a wiring harness merge either. We transplanted the complete 2004 WRX wiring harness, with @stevetuned building custom plug-and-play adapter harnesses to integrate the GC components. Almost no factory wires were cut or spliced.

The conversion includes the complete WRX dashboard, interior, HVAC system, working air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, and all the factory conveniences.

Under the hood is a hybrid 2.5L turbocharged engine running a @tomiokaracing TD05-16G turbocharger and other bolt-on upgrades. STI Brembo brakes handle stopping duties.

The car is tuned on a @cobbtuning Accessport and remains fully emissions compliant.

But here's where things get interesting.

I originally tuned the donor WRX at @preracing six years ago. When we finished the swap and put the car on the dyno, I fully expected to need to make some adjustments to the calibration.

Turns out, I didn't need to change a thing.

Six years later, with the entire drivetrain and electronics living in a completely different chassis, the tune was still spot on.

That's a pretty satisfying result for a project this involved, and a testament to how well the entire conversion came together.

It's essentially the GC-chassis WRX that Subaru never built.
