I snapped this photo from my office window four years ago on the night of the 2016 Presidential election. I remember leaving work and feeling so excited that my country was about to elect its first female president. In honor of the occasion, I hosted an election night party at my apartment: my sister made chili and homemade biscuits, I whipped up a batch of "Nasty Woman" cocktails (a creation made in honor of one of Trump's most famous pet names for Hillary) and together we settled in with some of our closest friends to watch election night coverage and celebrate. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ None of us could have ever predicted how that night would unfold, and come 4:00 in the morning when we were still watching in disbelief, I remember feeling a wave of panic wash over me as I envisioned what the four years ahead would entail. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Suffice it to say, tomorrow's election is likely the most important I'll see in my lifetime. And as I cast my vote with great eagerness and deep hope, I pray that America is made civil, kind, accepting, united, and safe again.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #election2020 #pleasevote #yourvotematters #tellthemruthsentyou #wecandothistogether #bethechangeyouwanttoseeintheworld #vote2020 #standupspeakout
