REST 🚫 RECOVERY

For the longest time, the medical world has made these two words synonymous, and they are NOT!

As a combat athlete (competitor or not), there are so many facets of our skill-set that we would be improving while working to rehab an injury…and rehab is just that: WORK!

Here are 3 things (amongst many others) that full rest from activity will do to your system in 2weeks 📉:

💪🏼 strength will decrease (muscle-cell size reduces)
❤️ resting heart rate will increase (the heart works harder)
🫁 VO2max decreases (oxygen consumption is challenged)

If you have an injury, you absolutely must take that into consideration with your training. We should re-evaluate the intensity, frequency, duration and style of training but definitely not eliminate it!

I want to personally help you maintain and improve your training habits while recovering properly from injury!

DM me “PAIN” if you are battling an injury and are ready for championship service to eliminate the problem, bulletproof your body and stay on the mats!

So proud of this team. Not every fight results in wins but when you can make significant progress between events, the process is working.

The formula is simple: work hard, be coachable, believe in yourself, get a team that has your back.

Thank you @codylindell & @newportmike155 for trusting us in this crazy game. Shout out to our team for showing up to support.

Love you guys!

Want to go to the gym but you don’t know what to do?!

I GOT YOU!

Figuring out where to start can be really intimidating. Which machines do I use? How do I safely utilize free weights? How many sets or reps should I use? How heavy should the weights be?

Most people face these problems and simply avoid starting.

We can change that together!

DM me saying “HELP” for a free phone call to talk about your goals, routine and we’ll lay out a plan together to exceed your expectations.

Feels like summer when @tommyrak8 comes in for his summer cut 😎 💈 ✂️

Also I’m aware I need to work on my video editing skills but cutting hair comes first 🤷🏼‍♂️ #newportri #newportbarber

1. You don’t need experience
Everyone has a day 1. Take the leap and start the journey!

2. You don’t need to be in shape
“I’ll start when I’m in better shape.” Sound familiar? We’re going to hold your hand when we say this, but that’s an excuse to never get started. Allow yourself to be new at something and reap the rewards.

3. You don’t need to be “Tough”
Despite popular belief, BJJ isnt just for gym bros. A great school will encourage ALL walks of life to join. We like to think we’re one of those schools 🫡

Send this to a friend who needs to hear this 📲

$🚀 Injury recovery does not mean you can’t train. In fact, all of my injuries (both big and small) have led to MASSIVE improvements in my game! 💥 In 2014 I fractured my ankle and was relegated to 6weeks in a cast and 8weeks in a walking boot. ✅ Instead of stopping my training altogether (like the doctors suggested) my team and I created a safe environment where I could hit the heavy bag and do some padwork to refine my boxing…which I truly never made time for, due to my sport karate background. 📈 Throughout those 14weeks, my boxing made some amazing growth…and it was all possible with great training partners! 1️⃣ Rule #1: if you have an injury, it is YOUR responsibility to declare that to your teammates and training partners, so you can establish the proper environment & intensity. 2️⃣ Rule #2: if your teammate is injured and needs to work their skills, BE A GOOD TEAMMATE AND HELP THEM! Don’t be an 🍑 🥊 Nobody likes the gym bully. Don’t be that person! Help your teammates and work your skills. It’s amazing how fast you’ll both improve! 📌 Comment below with some injuries you’ve had that helped you get better elsewhere! #TURBOsportsperformance #TeamTURBO #boxing kickboxing martialarts fighter mma rehab physio physiotherapy physiotherapist pt strengthandconditioning mobility backpain rehabilitation athletictraining injuryprevention injury sportsperformance$
