Meet our Y4ED Featured Community Member, Elisha Tompkins. We are so grateful she is part of our community, and we can't thank her enough for including us on her recovery journey. Here's what she shared with us about the power of community in her recovery:

"I want to say how much I appreciate Yoga for Eating Disorders and how it has helped me on my ED road of recovery. I have had an eating disorder since I was 12 and am now 56. An easy life with food and body dysmorphia is something I do not know. I cannot recall how I came about finding Jennifer and Y4ED online, but I stumbled across it on Facebook and was beyond excited! I am a therapeutic yoga teacher, and my dream job is to teach yoga to those suffering and in recovery from eating disorders. The six-week Yoga for Eating Disorders Course was a game changer for me. Even though I have been doing yoga for over 29 years, I learned about my body with ED in a whole new way. Not only that, but the Y4ED Community has been an unending source of knowledge and support on my road to recovery.

I am a firm believer that yoga is a healing modality. Jennifer and Y4ED have solidified that belief. It is a fantastic tool to help those suffering or on their own healing journey. I am forever grateful for this community!"

Big love to Elisha and all of you - thank you for being a part of the Y4ED Community💕

Last letter from my @camphoneycreekforgirls cutie pie—as of this week she IS a Robinette! More slithering creatures getting their heads chopped off in the TX hill country than you can shake a hoe at. 💜💛💜💛💜💛 #camphoneycreek

Raising awareness about eating disorders is imperative, not only to reduce stigma, debunk myths but ultimately to improve treatment & early intervention.

We know eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental health condition, second only to opiate addiction.

70% of New Zealanders do not have access to treatment they need. Similar stats elsewhere.
<6% of people with ED’s are “underweight” by diagnostic criteria.
10% of people with ED’s die within 10 years.
-26% of people with ED’s attempt suicide.

On average one person dies every hour as a result of their eating disorder. This should never be the case.
Awareness is traditionally centered around cisgender white females- neglecting other communities in which eating disorders are more prevalent.
Black teenage females are 50% more likely to experience eating disorders than white teenagers.
BIPOC are less likely to be screened by drs for EDs and 50% less likely to receive treatment.
LGBTQ+ transgender college students report disordered eating 4xs that of cisgender students. Bisexual, homosexual and non binary communities all have reports of increased disordered behavior but are less likely to receive help.
People in larger bodies are both at an increased risk of eating disorders and are half as likely as someone with a “normal”Weight to receive a diagnosis.
People with disabilities, males, athletes,
These are just a few highlights of the disparities in ED care.
Eating disorders do not discriminate but access to care does. Until we change the system, care will continue to remain inequitable.
So, please continue to use your voice and raise awareness &share helpful resources.
But we also need to challenge the system, educate our healthcare professionals to screen for and treat appropriately.

We need to support the organizations like BEAT, NEDA, MEDA, Project heal, EDcoalition, EDANZ that challenge Structural inequalities. Participate in online programs

I had the pleasure of taking my 300 HR Yoga Teacher Training in 2020 with Youga Yoga. Today I received my official certificate for completing the training and can say with confidence now I am a 500HR RYT! Thank you Lindy Burns and Youga Yoga for the amazing trainings and learning experience. I look forward to continuing to always be the student and offer more yoga to our community!

Missing my 300-hr cohort!

What a crazy 2020 we made it through together .. and infinite love to Lindy & @yougayoga for bringing all of us together and creating a lifetime of memories and friendships 🧡

On a side note ~ I’ll be co-teaching my first 300 hr training kicking off July 1st! We still have a few open spots and MOST of the curriculum can be completed via online (live) learning modules. The program includes TWO FREE RETREATS in Texas, and free access to all 200 hr training weekends as an additional, supportive perk. Message me for more details 😎🧘🏻‍♀️💕
