#TARNo1 Pairs Update

The morning has seen rolling thunderstorms — the kind that rumble your bones and handlebars — punctuated by spells of strong sun and thick heat.

Catching riders fresh off of the Ciro Trail near Čapljina, the Media Team caught up with pairs riders India Landy (43a) and Ollie Radford (43b). They had an impressive pre-03:00CEST start this morning after bedding down in Trebinje to regain some energy. They were stopped in a cafe for an early lunch and were happy with the morning’s progress. Feeling the effects of yesterday’s gruelling gradients, the pair were still enjoying the adventurous yet tiring route, and amusing themselves while capturing their journey through amateur photography. The duo are currently second fastest in the Pairs category, behind Frenchmen Julien Gravaud (40a) and Simon Taulelle (40b) who are riding amongst the top ten pack and look to be getting on swimmingly as riding partners. They were spotted leaving Čapljina well before dawn this morning.

Two more sets of pairs weren’t far behind, Hungarian Pairs Peter Olah (42a) and Köves Lajos (42b), who were snapped by @saskiadugon enjoying lemony, low alcohol Ožujsko beer, and the Germans, Isabelle Berti (41a) and Samuel Rosport (41b), who rolled through with a bulging bag of iced coffee and other beverages. Overall the Pairs race is a strong one, each following in quick succession and fairly close together. Can any of these dynamic duos close the gap towards riding buddies Julien and Simon, or are those two having too much fun to catch?

TARNo1 // Registration

Riders and volunteers were treated to a warm and sunny Shkodër for registration today. With a relatively small start line, and a cozy Albanian hostel serving as Race HQ, it’s been a day of catching up with familiar faces, and greeting new ones. A cosmopolitan Albanian city scene has been the backdrop to rider arrival, as local merchants sell their wares, fish, vegetables, and services along the busy streets.

Bike checks, barking dogs, trackers at the ready, and crisp Race caps bestowed upon still freshly showered heads.

What a great day out in the big city. Hanging out with Tom and Natali, learning some Mallakhamb, hearing all about ‘The Wrestlers Cane’ film and watching a trailer at the Nehru Centre, and seeing the sights. Met some wonderful people and had a great time!

Next week thanks to @luckysaint_luke @luckysaintbeer and @harry.corin I’ll be taking a course in Mental Health First Aid. I’ve never felt comfortable when people approach me and ask for help, hopefully this will change that.

The next stage is to start training other people. @ascnd.cc is going to start providing courses for people to become first aiders. I want ride guides, cycling clubs, brands and the hospitality industry to create a network of places for people who need help where someone will be able to ask “are you OK” and they’ll be equipped to show you some options.

This will be funded by the sale of @ascnd merch, we will also continue to support @tnncharity and the work they do.

As ever lofty ambitions and probably biting off more than I can chew but fnck it 🤷🏻‍♂️

One last thing. Should I put the jersey on sale now for preorder without fancy photos?
