I never imagined my daughter’s engagement would be filled with so many quiet connections that no one else would have noticed.

Some moments feel like they deserve to be remembered forever.

When I was little, I spent countless days at my grandparents’ house. One of my favorite places in the world was the nest swing hanging from the willow tree in their front yard. I could spend hours there, feeling safe, dreaming about what life might one day look like.

My grandma loved this country with her whole heart. If she ever saw a man or woman in uniform, she would go out of her way to thank them for their service. It wasn’t something she did occasionally it was simply who she was.

A few years ago, she passed away on the Fourth of July.

Then, on July 4, 2026, something none of us could have planned happened.

Kennadee said yes next to a willow tree, with the Lincoln Memorial standing behind them, as America celebrated its 250th birthday.

A young couple beginning their future in a place that represented so much of what my grandma loved.

Maybe they’re just coincidences.

Or maybe sometimes God leaves little reminders that the people we love never really stop being part of our story.

Either way, this moment will always feel like she was somehow woven into it.
