I’ll never forget the first time I heard CARE FOR ME. I was chilling inbetween classes at the Humanities building at UW-Madison my freshman year of undergrad. I’d been waiting a week to bump it and I found a quiet corner to take it in. I was moved to smile multiple times. Moved to tears multiple times. Electrified by Saba’s flow & wordplay. Enamored with his heartfelt storytelling. I knew this was a special & significant project to me off the rip.

“Write it away / Write it away / I just got tired of running away / running away”
Writing is a huge part of how I confront & question myself & the world around me. Writing is a tool to feel and face what moves my heart and soul. Through writing, I am able to distill triumph & tragedy. Writing has absolutely changed my life and been the light to bring me out of the depths of my darkest hours, days, months, years. Writing is a giant part how I’ve learned to care for me.

For my glo day shoot, I told Toni I wanted to honor some of my favorite albums and joints that were monumental to my coming-of-age journey.
Music is such a huge part of our lives so I knew Toni was finna see the vision and blow me away. AND DID THAT 🤩 (more otw!)

I could write for days bout how much this record meant to me when it dropped, what it means to me now and how seen I feel by it, but simple & plain, CARE FOR ME one of my favorite albums ever. Made by a young Blk man from “the part of the city they don’t be talking about”, the same city I’m born & raised.
Thank you, Saba, and everyone involved in bringing this joint to life. There’s heaven all around us 🎂
