Our Elders say that the longer we walk with a Prayer, the more intentions it carries and the stronger it becomes. 🕯️

For six months, we have been preparing for the “Día de las Almas Ceremony.” As the day approaches, we invite you to help carry this Prayer forward.

🌿 Tomorrow, October 20th: Help smudge and prepare the space.
🌼 October 31st: Help arrange flowers and candles on the Altar.
🕯️ November 1st: Gather with us for the Ceremony.

📍 Toolbox Laboratories
309 Puyallup Avenue
Tacoma, WA 98421

Together, we are making space for Indigenous traditions and Ceremonies from Mexico, Central America, and South America, keeping us connected to home, even thousands of miles away.

🌼🕯️ Join us in Tacoma for a Día de las Almas Preparation & Cleaning Party!

Together, we’ll clean and prepare the space for the Día de las Almas Ceremony on November 1st, when we gather to remember and honor the souls of our loved ones who have passed away.

🧹 Cleaning the space is also a way of preparing ourselves. As we care for the space together, we align our hearts, minds, and spirits for Día de las Almas, commonly known as Día de los Muertos. Each act of care helps us prepare to spend time with the loved ones we will be remembering.

Bring your good intentions and join us in Community as we prepare with love and Prayer.

📅 Tuesday, October 20, 2026
🕓 4 to 7 p.m.
📍 309 Puyallup Ave, Tacoma

All ages and abilities are welcome. Everyone can contribute in their own way.

Hosted by: @chiapaseducationproject @350tacoma, Proyecto Raíces, Túumben K’iin, @toolboxlabs , @allmyrelations2025, with support from ArtsWA.

Running a contracting business shouldn't feel like controlled chaos every single day.
But for most contractors it does.
Missed communication. Jobs running over. Decisions that only you can make. A crew that needs you in every room.
That's not a people problem.
That's an operations problem.
And operations problems have solutions.

I'm hosting Contractor Fix-It Night: a free, in-person workshop for contractors and construction business owners who are ready to stop firefighting and start building systems that actually work.

📍 Toolbox Laboratories · [Tacoma ,WA]
📅 Wednesday, October 21
⏰ 5:30 – 7:00pm
🎟 Free · 15 seats only

No pitch. No fluff.
Just real operational tools you can use the same week.

Drop FIX IT in the comments or click the link in bio to grab your spot before they're gone. 👇

Día de las Almas 🕯️🌻 (Día de los Muertos)

We invite you to join us for a Ceremony of remembrance as we honor our Ancestors and loved ones who have passed away.

Our gathering will feature an Altar by Túumben K’iin, a Mayan Community group from the Yucatán Peninsula. Bring a photograph or an offering for your loved ones to place on the Altar. Come sit with their memory, share their stories, and celebrate the love that continues to connect us.

Come learn about our Mayan culture and the meaning of Día de las Almas, and be part of our Ceremony. Pray with us and break bread in Community. We will also have live Mayan music and a performance by our Purépecha relative Chema Mota.

“My Name Means Free” is our forthcoming children’s picture book! Join author Tala Khanmalek and illustrator Saiyare Refaei this November 21st, from 2–4pm at @toolboxlabs (309 Puyallup Ave, Tacoma).

We’ll do a little cover reveal and share a reading from this forthcoming children’s book about Azad—a non-binary child of Iranian descent whose name means “free”—and talk about the process of bringing their story to life, making art amid war, and resisting cultural and identity erasure through art.

Just as Azad reimagines Norooz and the haftseen in the book, we’ll invite our community to do some reimagining of our own by building a community altar together during the event. We’ll also have coloring and crafting.

Participants will also have the opportunity to preorder “My Name Means Free” with @bluecactuspress and help us bring this book into the world.

Children, families, artists, and community members of all ages are warmly welcome. This is a free event, no registration required.

This event is supported by the City of Tacoma and Tacoma Art Commission’s TAIP Grant while all views are our own.

You know what AI will never be able to create?

Paper.

Yeah, you can print AI slop on paper but anyone working in print media in 2026 will understand the gravity of that decision. What felt like a curious novelty just a couple years ago has since spread around the world like a horror movie zombie virus.

This magazine is a celebration of humanity in its most authentic form and it’s an absolute honor to be able to keep making them for all you lovely people.

The quality that goes into our quarterly print magazines; the design, the imagery, the in-depth storytelling, the paper, the binding—everything—is a direct result of the people who support us.

Everyone who buys our magazines, all the local shops who sell them, our Patreon supporters, and all the local businesses who sponsor our magazines every quarter are the reason we still exist. Big shoutout to @wcp_solutions, @printnw, @bzpparklandspanaway, @toolboxlabs, and @rotatorcreative for sponsoring Hard Copy 29.

If you’ve read our latest magazine, you probably noticed a new section in the middle that we’ve never had before: actual advertisements [gasp!]

We avoided it for a very long time but earlier this summer we decided it was both necessary and possible to do it well without degrading the quality of our magazine.

@maddymixter.realtor took a big chance on us with this first issue and we cannot thank her enough. If you need a realtor who is deeply invested in this community, she’s the one for you.

@rotatorcreative is the reason our magazine looks so good and they are absolutely brilliant people. If you have a project that needs some creative magic, they’re the best there is.

@tacomanightmarket has been a supporter of this magazine since day one and we never would’ve gotten the first issue done without them. Don’t miss the next market at The Mother Ship.

Keep these people in mind when you’re deciding where to spend your money in Tacoma. And hit us up if you’re interested in being part of it.
