Welcome back to Fridge Facts, everybody. This is July 2nd’s Fridge Fact, and today marks World Sports Journalists Day, which is celebrated on July 2nd to mark the services of sports journalists for their promotion of sports. This day has been earmarked as the official day of celebration because of its significance as the date when the International Sports Press Association was established at the 1924 Paris Olympics. World Sports Journalists Day is celebrated to urge members of the sporting media to strive for excellence in their professional work. Even though I’m running a sports media company right now that is mostly focused on the digital side of things and the video side of things, I got my start in sports with sports journalism as a freelancer at NJ.com covering high school sports. Sports journalism means the world to me, and it is such an important aspect of the entire scope of journalism. Shout out to all the sports journalists out there. Let me know who your favorite sports journalist is in the comments section below. Tag ‘em if you want to. I wanna highlight and celebrate them here for this Fridge Fact, and I’ll see you all back here for July 3rd’s Fridge Fact.

Welcome back to Fridge Facts, everybody. This is June 24th’s Fridge Fact, and it’s Lionel Messi’s birthday. And in December 2000, a 13-year-old Messi was promised a future contract at FC Barcelona through an agreement that was written on a napkin during a lunch meeting with the club’s then sporting director, Carles Rexach. The informal contract was meant to reassure Messi’s father that a deal would follow. And then in 2024, that same napkin sold at auction for $965,000. Happy birthday to the GOAT. Let me know your favorite Lionel Messi moment down in the comments section below, and I’ll see you all back in the fridge for June 25th’s Fridge Fact.

Welcome back to Fridge Facts, everybody. It’s Mini Fridge Monday here on June 15th, and today is the 34th birthday of the Egyptian king, Mo Salah, a soccer legend. And on this 34th birthday for Mo Salah, he made some World Cup history as well, because with his assist for Egypt’s opening goal against Belgium, Mohamed Salah is the first African player on record since 1966 to register a FIFA World Cup goal involvement on their birthday, according to OptaJoe on Twitter. Tip of the cap there to OptaJoe for tonight’s Mini Fridge Monday fridge fact, and congratulations to Mo Salah on a little bit of World Cup history on your birthday. Let me know your favorite Mo Salah moment down in the comments section below. I’m sure I’ll have a ton of Liverpool fans chiming in, and I’ll see you all back up in the regular fridge tomorrow with another Fridge Fact.

Welcome back to Fridge Facts, everybody. This is June 14th’s Fridge Fact, and the FIFA World Cup is going on right now, and we had some World Cup history happen today, and that’s where our Fridge Fact takes us because defender Livano Comenencia scored Curaçao’s first ever goal in FIFA World Cup history during the nation’s tournament debut June 14th, today, against Germany. Also, Curaçao has the oldest manager in World Cup history, as their manager is 78 years old and got to make that debut and watch Livano Comenencia score Curaçao’s first ever goal in the FIFA World Cup. Let me know your favorite World Cup moment or memory down in the comment section below, and I’ll see you all back in the mini fridge for Mini Fridge Monday later on Monday night.

Welcome back to Fridge Facts, everybody. Today is May 24th, and this is a very, very on-the-nose Fridge Fact today. As you can see, I’m decked out in my Brighton & Hove Albion gear, because for the second time in club history, the Albion are headed to Europe as they will compete in the Conference League in 2026-2027. Just the second time ever in the history of Brighton & Hove Albion that they will be playing European football in a season that just was filled with ups and downs this year. And at the end of the day, it wasn’t obviously the direct route that we wanted to take to get to Europe, but Brighton are headed to Europe, a successful season and a Conference League that is right there for the taking. Up the Albion, baby. Let’s go. We’re headed to Europe. Feels good. It feels good. I’ll see you all back here tomorrow with another Fridge Fact.

UP THE ALBION @officialbhafc 💙

While they should be celebrated always, today is a day to heighten the celebration of the incredible women in this world who have paved so many paths forward and will continue to do so for years to come. We’re so fortunate we get to work alongside so many talented, independent, and admirable women every single day and we wouldn’t be the company we are without them. Happy International Womens Day 🚺
