@topogato, the Richmond District chocolatier known for its stunning and colorful truffles, has closed its Geary Blvd. storefront — just 16 months after opening.

Owner Simon Brown blames record cacao prices, which tripled in 2024 and peaked near $12,000 a metric ton, plus the spending habits of San Franciscans — even rich ones. “There’s a lot of wealth here, but everyone is tightening their purse strings,” he said.

The chocolates will still be available for purchase online.

We had a very happy Thanksgiving and hope you all did too! 🦃🧡 We had a delicious deep fried turkey, cornbread stuffing, homemade pumpkin pie and beautiful chocolates from @topogato. Bandit and Beau each got a special Thanksgiving plate too as a bonus second dinner and they loved it!

We’re having a great time in San Francisco. Feeling very blessed and thankful this week for many things including my beautiful boys, precious time with loved ones, and this wonderful IG community of friends! 🧡
