THE MISSION IS PROGRESS

Every rep has a purpose. Every phase has a mission.

From baseline to reassessment, the numbers speak for themselves.

24.9” ➡️ 29.8” (now 30.1”)| +4.9”

This is Vertical Power.

Another casualty @ the gym

RIP 🪦 to one of Smart Hurdles

To be fair to Jackson he DID nail the 54-inch jump…he just should’ve listened to me when I said go up 3” and not 6” 😂

Appreciate KC Star #sports reporter PJ Green coming through and talking to some of our athletes & staff for his story on TopSpeed & the success our #athletes have had over the decade+ we’ve been around.

I will post a clickable link to our IG stories and you can check out some quotes from them along with some of the history you may not have known.

Can the Standing Vertical Jump be used as an easy to test Readiness Indicator?

I certainly believe so, and based on direct observation, consults with colleagues at the pro/college level and feedback from athletes over the last ~6 years I’ve come up with the chart you see here.

Since (at least until Elon Musk starts a sports league in space) the strongest and most constant force acting against an athlete is gravity, their relative-ability to displace against it would likely be the best external indicator of current strength levels, power output threshold, nervous system status & body sequencing available.

The vertical jump has already been shown to be a powerful indicator of both health status and performance ability, here are a couple of examples;

🏈 in a study of college #football players, the vertical jump was shown to be the best predictor of playing ability. Put simply, the better/starting football players were much better jumpers than backups.

⚾️ in a study on college #baseball players the researchers also found that vertical jump was the single best predictor for positional players capable of high level defensive performances.

🚑 in a 2014 study the vertical jump was found to be more useful at identifying muscle loss due to sarcopenia in adults ages 55-75 than a traditional leg-press strength test.

🏐 in a recent conversation with my friend @ossenheimer, Strength Coach for Ole Miss volleyball, who has worked with VERT technology and tracked such things for several years, college #volleyball players showed a sharp drop off in vertical jump ability just prior to injury occurrence.

Questions? Happy to discuss this with any athletes, teams or coaches who are interested. Just shoot me a DM.
