INTRODUCING THE ARTISTS: TORNIKE ROBAKIDZE

Tornike Robakidze (b. 1995, Tbilisi, Georgia) lives and works in Paris. He studied architecture at the Georgian Technical University in Tbilisi from 2013 to 2017, before completing his Master’s degree at the State Academy of Arts in Tbilisi in 2019.

Robakidze’s recent solo exhibitions include Damp Field at Lo Brutto Stahl, Paris (2026); Paris Internationale with Lo Brutto Stahl, Paris (2024); My voice suspended in the air at Lo Brutto Stahl, Paris (2023); and Sometimes Paradise is a Sad Story at Gallery 4710, Tbilisi (2021).

Working across both oil on canvas and watercolor on canvas, Robakidze’s artistic inquiry delves into the subtle thresholds of daily life, operating in the delicate space where dreamscapes overlap with reality. In his compositions, skeletal figures frequently emerge as central motifs, serving as symbols of impermanence and suspended consciousness. By eschewing rigid outlines in favor of fluid color relationships- whether through delicate washes or deep, layered tones- he constructs scenes defined by an ethereal, misty luminosity. Fluctuating between concrete semiotics and open-ended, atmospheric interpretations, his work continuously resists singular resolution.

Lo Brutto Stahl is proud to announce ‘Air Service Basel 2026’, taking place at the gallery’s Swiss space within Basel’s FBO, Air Service Basel. This third iteration brings together 41 artists, including gallery artists.

New interview with @tornikrobakidze ✨

Born in Tbilisi and now working from a studio at POUSH on the outskirts of Paris, Georgian painter Tornike Robakidze moves between architecture and painting, between the dreaming and the real, between a homeland he carries within and a new city that is expanding her world.

His canvases — built in oil, watercolor, and pastel, without outlines, color pressing against color — explore the eternal weight of love, death, doubt, and paradise with a lightness that disarms. In this conversation, he reflects on the origins of his visual language, the quiet dialogue he holds with Georgian art history, and what it means to find your voice in an unfamiliar space — suspended, for a moment, in the air.

ჩემი სამყარო სიზმარივითაა, რომელიც გაღვიძებისთანავე ფერმკრთალდება. აქ აკვარელი ქსოვილის ძაფებს ერწყმის, მკვეთრი კიდეებისა და საზღვრების გარეშე. მხოლოდ გამჭვირვალე ლაქები რჩება, ნისლივით გაფანტული, თითქოს სულს არ სურს სხეულის დატოვება. ეს ფორმები ბუნების სუნთქვასავით უბრალოა — მსუბუქი კვალი ტილოს ფაქტურაზე, ამბავი შუქზე, ჩრდილსა და იმაზე, რაც მათ მიღმაა. ეს არ არის დასასრული, არამედ ხილვა იმისა, თუ როგორაა ყველაფერი ერთმანეთთან დაკავშირებული. აქ მხოლოდ სიმშვიდეა — ისეთი, ნესტიან, ნისლიან ველზე რომ დაისადგურებს ხოლმე, იქ, სადაც ხილული და უხილავი სამყაროები იკვეთება და ყველაფერი ერთი დიდ მდინარებასავით მიედინება
