'𝐉𝐎𝐊𝐄𝐑' 𝐍𝐎𝐍-𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐑 𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐄𝗪: 𝟗½🃏/ 𝟏𝟎⁣ ⁣ Arthur Fleck [Joaquin Phoenix], a former psychiatric patient now living in the community, is in desperate need of monitoring & ongoing psychological assistance. After being assaulted while working as a clown, Arthur is fired for taking a gun to work & things only get worse when he loses his case-worker due to budget cuts. Disregarded by society & now lacking any support [including medication], Arthur's insanity takes a hold with violent consequences as he embraces his new persona - 'The Joker.'⁣ ⁣ With traces of Martin Scorsese's respective 1976 & 1982 classics, 'Taxi Driver' & 'The King of Comedy,' Todd Phillips' direction & Lawrence Sher's cinematography combine to make a moody & masterful drama about one of the most intriguing yet mysterious characters in the DC Universe. The powerful soundtrack perfectly adds to the dark mood of Gotham City as it descends into chaos in the early 1980's.⁣ ⁣ 🤡 Phoenix's Arthur Fleck is but only one iteration of The Joker & is quite different to Jared Leto's violent 'Jester of Genocide' or Heath Ledger's diabolical & Machiavellian 'Clown Prince of Crime.' 🤡 ⁣ 🎭 Nonetheless, Phoenix is absolutely brilliant in his depiction of a man who every single day struggles to control his mental illness; he embraces his character 110% to the point of being physically emaciated & his maniacal laugh is unsettling. 🎭 ⁣ 🃏 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘭𝘮 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘳𝘦 𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺.
