"The Tāwharanui Open Sanctuary Society (TOSSI) formed in 2002, created a unique blend of conservation, recreation and sustainable farming within Tāwharanui Regional Park.

With a predator-proof fence built across Tāwharanui peninsula, it is a refuge for native animals free from pests such as rats, stoats and possums.

@tossi_nz has helped the return of more than sixteen species to breed or been re-introduced to the sanctuary including takahē, kiwi, pāteke (brown teal), kākāriki, korimako (bellbird), toutouwai (North Island robin), kākā, pōpokotea (whitehead), tīeke (saddleback), geckos, giant kokopu, and seabirds."

Lots of gratitude to the Queen Elizabeth II scholarship for facilitating this learning experience and to the Faculty of Social Work, University of Calgary for the support.

There are many birds that like to feed on nikau palm berries. Watching the way this kaka would carefully pick a berry with its beak and then transfer to its foot to hold whilst it did the eating was facinating.

Waterfall chasing ✨Summer adventures when @sophsta_buggsy and @golden.gallops came to stay - we packed in beach swims waterfall climbs spotting the rare Tieke (saddleback), and of course horse riding… both with @muriwaibeachhorsetreksofficial and bareback sunset meanders with my horses. 🐴
I absolutely loved having you girls visit ✨ and thought our New Zealand adventures deserved another spot on my timeline.
