From time to time, it’s important to break away from the very controlled work I do in watercolour, and just loosen up with some pencil sketches. I’m drawing from photos I took of my daughter and she has some great expressions! It was fun to explore those 😊. It’s easy to just draw a pretty face with a neutral pose, or sensual, or smiling and soft - much more challenging to draw these extreme expressions and angles ✏️💪.

“The Inheritance” SOLD.
Watercolour and 24k gold leaf on 16 x 20” clay panel (Aquabord). Muse courtesy Finn Little 💎.

My paintings of rare and precious stories will find their way into the world, but I will not sell to just anyone. This is an award-winning piece, an important work that foretells the failed legacy of humanity while also signaling that there is somehow still hope. It will be cherished in its new home 😊💕.

We all marvel at the details painted into the main subject but few pay attention to the backgrounds executed in watercolour. At this large size, wide open gradient only hinting at location, the risk is huge. It takes dedicated respect for how the different sized pigment particles will behave on a surface, borne by water, with gravity, temperature and time all at play. If only you could hear me wishing, hoping, and coaxing the pigment to give me these kinds of effects exactly where I want them. I am always humbled by the results 🥹.
