“Tournament” was the first union film I’d had the pleasure to be a part of. I got to play this absolute bad ass with a heart of gold in Margot and I met a lot of GREAT people and reconnect with @gracefolsomart who I went to NYU with!
Juice Goss Moment: the movie is a slice of life film that takes during a tournament of a card game called “Tournament.” It’s a competitive card game similar to Magic the Gathering or Pokemon, so as research the team had us learn some of Magic. And then so I could see what a real tournament would be like, I rolled up to a “Magic the Gathering Night” at a local comic book store in LA. I thought I could sort of show my newly learned moves, and be quiet and observe. I wasn’t going to tell them I was working on a movie because I thought that would be super weird, but within two minutes these players were like “OK, why are you here?” I TOTALLY GOT FOUND OUT LOL! But, I told them what I was doing there and they were super nice and gave me some great tips and I had a great time.
What I’m grateful for - so many things, I had a great time working with @patriciadisalvoviayra and we’ve stayed in contact over the years, and so many others on this cast and crew as well. But I think what pops out is that this film had a screening in Seattle, where my sister and her family live. So my sister, her husband, and her two kids went to the screening, and my nephew Eli (who is VERY hard to impress BTW) absolutely fell in love with this film. It was the first time I was able to do something that my family could see, in a theater, in their own city. It was just really special to me to have my nephew form his own relationship to a movie I was in.
Tournament is on Amazon Prime if you’re interested in watching it!

This Sunday help us give a shout out to the movie Tournament and it’s amazing writer Patricia! This film is a fun and relatable story about gaming friends that you will still get sucked into even if you’ve never flipped over a card! Not only is Patricia a gifted writer, she is also the cofounder of the Lady Filmmakers Festival!
Check out Tournament on Amazon and see you next Sunday! 🎉
